I agree with you completely. I was actually thinking about it yesterday when Shaurya said that breaking of engagement is not contingent of Anokhi's acceptance but rather BM's health. In other words if Anokhi were to accept the marriage wholeheartedly, Shaurya will still continue with the farce of the engagement until he feels like BM can handle it and expect understanding out of Anokhi which is where the whole "you don't respect me" notion of Anokhi comes in. Frankly I am not even confident that if push comes to shove, Shaurya will man up enough to choose Anokhi over his BM in current situation.
Regardless of how you look at it, the issue boils down to Shaurya's blind trust on BM/BP and they taking advantage of it. Sab family soch is BM/BP soch and they enforce it with iron fist using any method possible. For Shaurya's soch to change, he needs to admit mistakes were made in past and alternative options to solve the problems were not explored and that means BM/BP could have been wrong. In essence his blind trust has to go. That allows him to recaliberate his soch gradually, make attempts to fix issues of past and be the man that is worthy of Anokhi's love. That is a very tall order for now because no one is willing to speak up. Something big and life changing has to happen - I think that is Anokhi finally walking away from him with no hope of reconcilliation or him somehow finding truth about all BM's manipulation.
He has to take the first step for others to step in or help him.

I think he wants her to be there support him in his life through thick and thin as a gf/wife. But during hostel visit the way he was talking it seemed like shaurya wants to take her home and he is waiting till she gives green signal and BM to get better.
Also during temple scene shaurya admitted that he didn’t give much thought before filling her vermillion with sindoor so I think we all are thinking more about this than shaurya lol
