Paheli was only submitted from India as its official entry to be considered for nomination. It didn't make it to the final list. Strange, because we had Black that year, which had better chances.

Btw, from 1957 to present, only 3 Indian films have made it to the final Oscar nomination list.😆

That's why I don't understand why "Oscar Nominations" make huge fuss in India very year.

Black was copied/inspired from a Hollywood movie called “Miracle Worker”. So obviously it would be rejected.

I think we should go beyond Bollywood and start submitting cinemas from all over the India...we actually have some great talent but film industry is biased.

Oscar itself is struggling to maintain it’s relevance...

There’s no excitement or buzz anymore

Every year ratings are dropping and this year was the lowest rating ever, only 10 million people watched, it was a whopping 58% low from last year... that’s really bad ( although ratings for all award shows have dropped) given Oscar’s historic Nielsen supremacy and how much more ABC pays for the show compared to other awards broadcasts...

The film industry and how it is presented to people is going thru a huge transition, bigger than it has for a long time, not counting the technological advances that have made it incredible in just a few generations. In America I can tell you that the fact that people are NOT interested in the Oscars is because the public has become disenchanted (and rightfully so) with celebrities and their self glorification, the Oscars is largely that, an award they give themselves...plus the biggest factor is that the celebs themselves decided to turn the awards and their five minutes of thanking the little people into a political virtue signaling, holier than thou, sanctimonious opportunity, where they self righteously want to tell the very same little people who made them rich and famous; what to do, who to vote for, what to think and most of all to sacrifice and save the planet, live in hovels, be tolerant of terrorists and walk everywhere, all this while they fly private jets & live behind walls in gun guarded mansions. So the public in American ain't having it...celebs created a monster that will eventually not care how many bald gold imitation figures you have, when they are rioting...

My hope is that next year not even one million people watch that crap and give self-aggrandizing award shows and the morally corrupt celebs a huge middle finger.

ok rant over...

I personally LOVED Paheli still do actually, to me it was a fairy tale with all the charm of a folk tale and a fable straight out of a story book. Loved SRK and Rani in it too. It will always be a favorite for me.
