Nepotism harms art because it hurts talented ouitsiders. But not giving support to talented insiders is also bad. And it does hurt the artform as a whole. It's like saying RDjr, Jake Gyllenhal, Sofia Coppola shouldn't exist in HW despite their contributions. Or Bill Gates shouldn't have been allowed the contract with IBM in the early stages of Microsoft because his mother was on United Way board with IBM's CEO. Think of where the world would've been today without that small bit of nepotism?😆 Bill Gates stepped in to save Apple when it got into financial difficulties. Cronyism of a kind. Still, that also changed the world. AFAIK, Microsoft still owns 10% of Apple.
Alia is not Meryl Streep... agreed. Nor is she Sridevi or Tabu or Parvathy Thiruvoth. But when Alia does certain roles, she excels. And plus, give her time. Tabu and Sridevi got their time to grow. Alia is already miles ahead of where they were at the same stage in their careers. BW insiders might be supporting one of their own, but she is also one with tremendous potential. Do you see the same amount of support for the likes of Ananya?
