Part 3

It was 2:00 at night, and there was no noise on the streets except chirping crickets. The streets were emptied out, as it was the time for all and sundry to snooze and dream of whatever they desire, the hours of elevating surrealism. Just then, squeaking of shoes ruptures the silence. Subsequently the same shoes can be heard clomping up a series of stairs, then a thump on the door. The door creaked open and Neha peeped out. Folding her arms, she raised her brow. "Welcome, your highness. So what if it's the dead of night? You've forever indebted us by approaching our home." Vicky replied subtly, while grabbing her hand, "Did I ever mention you're best sister in the whole wide world!" Then, peeking inside the house, he continued, "Is mom awake? Tell me she's not…PLEASE tell me she's not!" Neha sighed and responded, "I put her to sleep. But tomorrow morning, you're dealing with her. And I won't be of any help!" He smirked and gave her a forceful bear hug. "Get off!" she whined as his arms tightly armed around her. This boy…one day he's going to get himself in some severe dilemma…

Devika, now a bit bushed, sat cross-legged in her bed. Vicky's words echoed like the resonance of drums in her ears. I'LL FIND YOU THE RIGHT MAN. I'LL FIND YOU THE RIGHT MAN. She calmly thought to herself, I wonder how he'll do it…Hold your horses, Devika… why are you trusting some kid who you met just today, whose phone number is all you have? Her profound thoughts were suspended when she saw a young man walking into her room. "Sharrad, ever heard of knocking?" she asked, now irritated. He blushed a little and said, "Oh, sorry di! Um…uh, bye then!" Now she was further agitated, "Why were you here in the first place?" He looked at her. "I'll tell you some other time…when you're in a good mood!" As he left, she blew back the hair that lay in the front of her eyes. Then she threw herself back and lied on the bed. Sharrad's right…I am too tense! Calm down, Devika, calm down!

Part 4

RING! RING! Neha put down her case and sighed. Then she swiftly ran to the room where the phone was. As she took of her glasses, she picked up the phone. "Hello…oh," She blushed. "You shouldn't have! A party for me, Mr. Oberoi? Thank you, but this really was not necessary. Oh, alright…I'll be right over…Yes… Thank you, once again." As she put down the phone, she couldn't help but gush at the thought. She sprinted back to her room, and started emptying out her closet. So much to do and so little time…ah, we've gotta do this fast!

Sharrad looked at his watch and groaned. Another "business party" and he was already late. He fixed his tuxedo and looked back at the mirror. He pointed at his reflection. "Wow, you're looking good!" He then chuckled, and at that point, someone knocked at bedroom door. As he opened, he saw a smiling elderly man in a robe and an older woman, standing there, smiling at him. "Someone looks first-class, isn't it, Mom?" the elderly man said. The woman giggled and nodded. Sharrad shook his head. "Dad, are you trying to bribe me with words?" His father gave a sarcastic flabbergasted look. "Now, why would I do that?" Then he laughed and continued, "Now hurry along, you're late, aren't you?" Sharrad glanced back at his watch. Oh man! He smacked his head and scuttled out. His grandmother glanced at him running and then turned her attention to his father. "The little one's growing up so fast, isn't he?"

At the party, Neha held her glass of orange liquid, and reminisced on when she first came to the party. Mr. had greeted her with a warm welcome and given a open speech about the purpose of the party. Then, winking at her, he said, "Yes, she may be tardy, but she is a bright one for her age!" As he remembered his little joke, she couldn't help but smile. Then she frowned again, staring at her tacky drink. What a lame fruit cocktail! Blech! But she didn't have too much time to be intertwined in her thoughts before a she crashed into a young man, who was also walking. Neha went red. "I'm so sorry! I ruined your blazer!" Sharrad, previously flushing, now un-tightened his face and uttered, "No, I'm so sorry! I ruined your drink!" This time around, she looked amused. "Actually, you indirectly did me a favor! That drink was quite tawdry anyhow! By the way, I'm Neha." He smiled. "I know. heard the speech over there! I must say, I'm impressed…As far as I know, Mr. Oberoi was in a lot of crap with his business. I wouldn't have expected him to be saved. You did a good job. Oh, I'm Sharrad, my family and the Oberoi's are tied by business and family bonds!" Now, she had a vague idea of his social class, but that didn't matter. Something about his name caused a brief spark in her mind. She had heard that name before. Sharrad…Sharrad…uh, yes! Sharrad Choudhary! I knew I read it over in the news…Sharrad Choudhary, son of Amarnath Choudhary…taking over father's big business empire! Woah, this guy is pretty humble in that case. Hmmm, cool!

Part 5

The middle-aged woman grew impatient as she sat in her sofa, flipping pages of the magazine in her hands. She was definitely bored, but it seemed as if she was anxiously awaiting something. Just then, the bell rang, and she sped to it. "Neha, dear. How was the party? How were the boys? There were boys weren't there?" Neha gave her a deadly glare and quite stiffly replied, "Just want me to be married off, don't you? To get rid of me, Mom?" Her mother looked upset, and then whispered, "I only want you to be happy." Then she walked out, now flushing. As she walked out, Vicky walked past her towards Neha. "What happened to her?" he said, confused. She frowned, and with guilt in her eyes, she replied, "I pissed her off again. I have that effect on people." Then she laughed heartily, while Vicky rolled his eyes. "Yea, I know." The he burst out laughing as well. She gave him a look of fake shock and whacked his back. "Shut up!"

Devika stood out, the wind blowing against her tresses. Small tears rolled down her eyes. I'm sorry to all…to love, to life, to age, to nature, to people…to all. She inhaled deeply and let herself fall forward, into the jaggedly cliff. She didn't take a second look at her SUV parked right behind her. She just looked forward at her destiny. As she rolled down, paining her way, bits by bits towards death, she heard a screech, "DEVIKAAAA!!!!" But she didn't look back…maybe because she couldn't or maybe it was her emotions that she left back on the top of the cliff.

Opening her eyes, she could only see fuzz, in shapes of humans. But as things cleared out, she noticed these were known people standing in front of her weeping, but none of them the face she wanted to see…that one face she anticipated up in the jagged terrain, that one face she couldn't bare to look at when she was falling, the one person who had promised to help her survive…he wasn't there.
