So, the first part received an excellent response, that's why I am opening a second part.
Which book are you currently reading?
I recently finished this book called 'Nothing Can Hurt You' by Nicola Maye Goldberg and would recommend it to all. It's such an unusual, beautiful book and subverts the trope of the 'dead girl' genre and the 'thriller' genre by intermingling the two...an exquisite book which looks at the death of a college student who was suspected to be murdered by her boyfriend, through 3 narrative voices, each of whom was connected to the death in some way. I finished it in one sitting, it was eerily graphic and psychologically complex.
You are left wondering: human beings are capable of so much violence and how does this violence come about? What triggers it? Is empathy a resource we hoard or a muscle to exercise? These questions are just the tip of the iceberg, there's so much more to the book, it's devastatingly graphic and at the end of the day, you are in awe at the writer's fine act of balancing the art of words with the urgent need to convey fragile human emotions.
