Is she really a social drinker though? To me she has always appeared as an alcohol addict, which is common among Punjabis these days anyway.

Alcohol addicts cannot function without alcohol. Most lose their careers or it starts to show impairment in their professional and personal lives. Kareena having a child for 9 months abstained from alcohol and willingly pursued a second child. This doesn't strike me as an addict from any angle.
