Our society is a such a typical stereotyped one. Yesterday only one of my relative and I had an argument regarding infidelities attached with the marriage, also always compromises relating to that.

We also discussed that if the husband maintains extra marital affairs then it is OK. Wife has to forgive him. But when wife has the same, then she will be judged.

What if a wife indulges in a extramarital affair? Situation gets more worse.

Centuries of patriarchy has created these "norms" for the society. Men were never held accountable for their mistakes. Some woman in their life whether a mother or a wife would be held responsible. And so much so that even the women would start feeling guilty for something they never did.

And it is not just with Indian society. Historically this has been the "norm" all over the world. The west specially Americans and some parts of developed Europe started changing this and that's when we started calling them "uncultured" and consider us superior culturally.

The rest of the world whether is Asia or Europe or Africa or latin America is still this way.

Some people all over the world opposed and and this gave rise to Feminism. Unfortunately, some people in the name of feminism try to do the same thing of giving unfair advantage to women than men where the whole thing takes a beating. But its a start. And has to go a long way where all human beings are treated equally irrespective of gender or color or race.
