I believe he is a decent actor. With time he has improved. But what happened to him? He does not do many movies.

He was never media guy
I think he's a chilled out guy and has a laid back attitude (not in a bad way)
He picked whatever films he could pick/liked and once things started getting boring/monotonous for him..he stepped back gracefully.
There is an interview of his, which is one of the most self-aware and self-deprecating interview I've ever read from Bollywood. He explains everything about his career mistakes and how people that he trusted and banked upon never gave him a chance. Yet, he takes it in the stride and never comes across bitter and cynical. Being a newbie, I can't post link, but let me try:

He had so much potential to be a great action star, I can't fathom how he lost it... The most important quality I admired in him was his vulnerability. Not many actors have that quality, especially the recent lot. The doubt in your eyes that you can lose it all in a moment.

"I guess I was too old-fashioned, couldn't keep up with the quickly changing times. In my time, the 90s, everything was slow. People didn't talk about themselves all the time. Your work did the talking. It was rare to see or access a star and that made being one very interesting. There was no social media, no internet, things were generally simpler. Suddenly, there was this transition and I couldn't adapt to it. But now, I want to change that. I really, really want to change that.
I didn't even realize when my career started slipping away. You usually don't. Work slows down and before you know it, you are sitting at home more than hanging out on film sets. I used to ask myself: What's wrong with you, Bobby? Why aren't you getting work? Add to it the speculations and stories people spin around you.
People thought I am a rich spoilt brat who was happy with life and who didn't want to work. They thought I am extremely lazy. I don't know why people thought that. I have never delayed a film in my life. Ask my producers, I was always on time. But it's easy to believe a negative story and the faster it travels, fiction turns into fact and it's an endless cycle.
90s were very different. Life was simpler, people were nicer, and things were less complicated. Media creates a very strong blueprint of what is 'current' or who is the new 'blue-eyed boy' and now the media is bigger than it was ever before. It wasn't like that before. There were lesser tools of distractions so your focus was entirely on your work. I remember I had just finished Gupt in 1996 and mobiles phones had arrived. But as a luxury item. If you used it a lot, your bill could shoot up to Rs. 50,000!
But the time I really miss is the 70s and the 80s. I was a teenager full of youthful angst and would listen to Pink Floyd, Nazareth, and the Eagles and then the 80s pop music scene broke in a big way. That was a time of phenomenal music. Even now, people are cashing in by recycling old hits.
I was an insecure, overweight kid who had major confidence issues. It was only when I turned 17 did I muster some courage to talk to women. In college, a senior girl came to me and said, 'Do you eat a lot of tomatoes?' I was petrified. And I started going red on my face. Then she yelled, 'Because you are so RED.' I ran away or something, muttering under my breath, 'What the hell does she mean man.' After going through these instances, I was quite pleased to be considered a man who women would swoon over.
I think I made some wrong decisions in the mid-2000s (Kismat, Bardaasht, Tango Charlie were the films he appeared in back then). I ended up doing films which I didn't want to but I had to. It backfired and work started slowing down.
Akshay used to do about 4 shifts in a day at that time. Even now, he does about 4 films a year. I don't know what went wrong with my career trajectory. Simply put, I couldn't move up with the times. But I don't want to make that an excuse anymore. I don't want to pity myself. That'd suck."

Awww. He seems like a genuine guy. Please do more movies. I will support you 👍🏼
Can’t he start his own production house and make stories. I think he was amazing in Humraaz.

He'll still have to find producers for his productions. And generally producers tag along with directors. So, if there is no hot director willing to back him, he won't find much work :(

😒
So unfair.
I like bobby deol and akshaye khanna
bobby, akshaye and hrithik are my childhood heroes
What went wrong with bobby deol career?
From what i have read and heard from first movie only bobby was projected as a non actor or bad actor
I am not sure why that happened? because when i watched him in dillagi - that was my first movie of him when i small on TV. I liked his character rocky that badass attitude, that devil may care way. Of course the way he broke urmilas heart and behaved with his brother in end was a bit too much. I mean does any younger brother get so wild when his brother falls for same girl? Other than that his was best acting in that movie. His role made that beaten to death two hero one heroine movie watchable. Its only after that movie i watched his other movies like gupt, barsaat, soldier, humraaz etc otherwise like people said i thought hes a bad actor
Second reason bobby movie flopped is both yash raj and dharma productions basically ignored him. I read sunny deol had a fight during darr with yash raj. May be because of that he never worked with them. Kjo was yash raj friend so he to may have not worked with bobby. After mid 1990s it was yash raj and dharma domination and whoever was in good terms with them prospered like saif, srk etc
Third reason bobby flopped is that if you see all successful actors have a director whose loyal to them. Like salman had barjatyas, ajay had rohit shetty, srk had kjo and adi chopra, rani had adi chopra backing etc but bobby other than abbas mastan never had any director who worked with him again and again. Abbas mastan were more into thrillers, the late 90s and 2000s was more romance and comedy movies not action or thriller which bobby did
Fourth bobby is not good at self pr etc very media shy not internet savy.
Fifth wrong news about you can spoil your image and chances
Read below that he said
I didn’t realise that people think these things about me… that he’s never on time. He’s always thinking about pack-up. I’ve never been late for my shoots and I’ve never ever cancelled a shoot. But I was told people think this about me. Everybody believed that I must not be finishing my work. And when social media started talking about me like that, it was difficult to approach people.

I feel she will end up just like them because Suhana really lacks the looks, glamour and talent! I mean she’s just NOT cut out for the glamour...
