I donât think Kjo or any one deserves hate, but They do need a reality check and be held accountable. truth is that he launched 3 debutants who were all connected to him via family/friends and has played a critical role in shaping their careers. Iâd go far to say, all three of them have not displayed talent that is so remarkable, you can forget about how they got their movies.
But, here is my issue with nepotism. Your vested interest in casting your favorite cannot Rather should not be Greater than your vested interest in making a good product. At the end of the day, Kjo or anyone is making a film for public consumption, not for private viewing.
I think the ire we are seeing is people fed up of being robbed of good talent, and content. Ofcourse you do have trolls and sheer stupidity, but Iâd think many people are waking up to the fact that what we are served for consumption is carefully curated by some key people in BW.
So while, we can have an intersection where talent meets merit, we have also seen instances in which âwhoâ takes Importance than âwhatâ. We saw it in Kalank, the infamous haseena Parker, and so forth.
BW, as an industry, atleast to me, isnât growing. You donât have innovation of thought, technology, and increasingly their traditional markets is poached by regional, international films and OTT platforms.
BW, is still stuck copying south films/remakes, adapting books or biopics, basically itâs so risk averse, it functions on copy paste template until something doesnât work.
Movies like Avengers are raking in $. A Baahubali, despite not being a movie originating from BW, holds the highest $ made in history. Even in the south, you have innovation of thought... they are making movies like Super Delux, or getting 350 crores for a movie helmed by prabhas, who isnât even a BWactor. Whereas bramastra is made at what,150 crores?.
I donât think you can fully say nepotism here, but, i do think when you have gatekeepers who engage in power play, you breed mediocrity, which to me is the antithesis to growth. BW, I would say, needs to chuck away with the elitist mentality, and move forward with promoting talent and ultimately content.
