That's a big reason for why TV stardom rarely translates to movie stardom. A lot of people are only interested in the character and won't watch the actor's other work. They also get used to watching them for free so they won't pay to watch them in a theater.

Sushant was able to escape that fate but in general knowing a TV serial character is very different from knowing the actor.

Rich elite Bandra type people don't watch Indian TV. They would consider it downmarket so it's perfectly believable that they didn't really know him. Sonam isn't really the one I blame for that but Karan deserves some flak for including him in the rapid fires when he knew Sushant would get trashed and placed last every single time. That was a set-up and they could have just left him out. Sonam herself has also gotten trashed in those rapid fires as so many people place her last in acting (along with Kat) and put her last in their sexy lists too.

But KwK was watched by the audience for this bitchiness in the first place. That was the only reason for this show's existence. People loved to see the tea come out and guess who likes who, who hates who, etc. Now the same audience is acting holier than thou.

@bold...well each to their individual but than a TV character is remembered for years that even if the actor is seen somewhere they call their character names that shows the popularity of their character and its their hardwork being appreciated

I don't remember Rajeev Khandelwal and Ronit Roy for any of their films at all or what characters they played even though i have watch their films but i do remember the characters they play in their shows Sujal Garewal and Mr Rishabh Bajaj its not like people don't know the person they know the person but their work is so amazing that their characters lived eternal life they associate with the character more

even if they are call in their character names but its still so proud that their characters are still loved and remembered by every household after all these years when the show is no more the characters lives eternal life in people's heart

That's what I was saying. They are known as their TV characters and not as the real actors behind them. Most won't even know their real names.

It's a big curse for them if they're looking to make a bigger career elsewhere because they get typecasted as the popular character they played. These character fans don't even watch their other work most of the time. That's why it's extremely rare for TV actors to become successful as movie actors. You can count on your fingers how many TV actors were able to transition to becoming movie stars. The popularity of their serial characters doesn't help at all.

Well, he featured in a super hit Balaji TV serial. I would find it hard to believe he was not a household name. Bollywood insiders are lucky ordinary TV watching audience is not aware of the shitty things Bollywood does, otherwise their empires built on fake PR and superficiality would be gone.

He might have been a household name to a certain demographic, but all my friends and I knew of these so-called super hit shows were that all our mothers watched them and our fathers mocked them for it. We’d all flee from the TVs at the sound of one of the cheesy title tracks. And Jhalak Dikhla Jaa was mocked by all people in my family. So I never knew Sushant until Kai Po Che, and even then I didn’t know his name. I only knew his name after Dhoni. It’s entirely possible that he wasn’t someone who came across Sonam, Alia, etc. radar. I know people may say that’s unbelievable, but they’re actresses, and there was no big actress in Kai Po Che, so it’s not like they had reason to notice the film. Moreover, do you realize how many Bollywood movies are made each year? How can any human keep track of them all, not to mention the actors in each?

The outrage is not that they did not know him, if many celebs would have given simple messages, it would have been okay with people actually .

Sushant was an outsider, who made it on his own without a godfather , an intellectual, educated person.

A young person who could have achieved and done so much has gone too soon and that is a tragedy.

I myself have followed him on insta, as I knew him to be a good actor but his posts on physics and philosophy were awesome

The backslash started when celebs like KJo, Sonam et al wrote long posts about Sushant, where before they either mocked , ignored or made fun and of him.

In this digital age everything is recorded so all their past mocking have come out and people are calling them out.

Mental health and nepotism which was already being discussed is out on full flow now.

Also because of the lockdown, people also are guilty and angry that here was a self made guy who gave consistent hits but did not get his due, and did not take things too seriously.

His death pushed everything to the forefront.

Hope atleast now it does not become a 2 day story and the film industry is cleaned up and given prominence to acting, stories, music than just the lifestyle, papz and pr shoved down our throats

So because they didn’t know who he was years ago when he started out in films they can’t grieve him now? Plus, they weren’t mocking him, they usually just justified ranking him last or selecting him for the “kill” option by saying they didn’t know him. And honestly, even Ellen DeGeneres does a Who’d You Rather segment, so it’s not like F**k, Marry, Kill or these ranking games were invented by Karan Johar. Honestly everyone has just been fed Kangana’s nepotism talking points by the media and are going on a rampage like sheep. People like Kangana, Shekar Kapur and Sonu Nigam are just using Sushant’s suicide to further their own agendas and somehow people are accepting them as heroes come to reform Bollywood.

I and neither my family watched Indian TV shows and I knew who Sushant was. And I'm all the way in Canada so Sonam has literally no excuse.

And if Sonam genuinely didn't know who Sushant was, then that means she has no passion or dedication to Bollywood, which proves how undeserving she is.

I never watched his shows but still knew him by reading newspaper and seeing saas bahu saazish type shows

And watched his and ankita love story on jdj

I watched his first movie kai po che as I had read the novel it was based on so I was curious

He was working in yrf in the starting of his career which is the biggest production house

There is no way they never knew or heard his name

They must be knowing the names of even the spot boys of yrf then how come not of the lead male of 3 movies of yrf

Why she should care for someone with whom she never worked with. Not everybody is busy hounding what others are doing. I generally do not care for someone with whom I know I will never meet or interact in my life again.

You should be happy at-least she was not part of the blind planting team.
