Sooraj Pancholi finally reveals why he stayed silent about Jiah Khan for years

Actor Sooraj Pancholi has shared a detailed statement addressing renewed discussions around the Jiah Khan case, years after he was acquitted by a special CBI court. In a note posted on Instagram on August 2, Sooraj expressed disappointment over what he described as misleading narratives and urged people to rely on facts instead of speculation.

Beginning his statement, Sooraj questioned the way the case continues to be discussed in sections of the media. He wrote, “To ALL the Media pages out there! Please explain what you believe remains ‘unanswered,’ and kindly make sure your facts are accurate. I went through a 14 year court trial. The case was decided on the basis of facts, evidence and the law. I was acquitted, and there are no ‘unanswered questions’ from the legal proceedings. All the court records and trial proceedings are publicly available for anyone who genuinely wants to understand the facts before forming an opinion."

Reflecting on the period following Jiah Khan's death, Sooraj recalled being just 20 years old when the incident took place. He said he had known her for only four months and was unaware of the personal struggles she may have been facing. He added that the legal battle consumed the next 14 years of his life, a period he believed should have been spent building his career.

He further wrote, “I spent the next 14 years fighting to prove my innocence... The court of law was the only place where I could prove my innocence. I put my faith in the judicial process, and after 14 years, I was acquitted."

Sooraj also explained why he had remained silent about his personal conversations with Jiah. He stated, “Just because I have chosen to remain silent all these years doesn’t give anyone the right to write whatever they want. Out of respect, I have never spoken publicly about the personal traumas she shared with me... I chose to protect her privacy despite everything I have been through."

Concluding his note, the actor appealed for responsible reporting. He urged people to approach the subject with honesty, sensitivity and professionalism, adding that every misleading headline continues to reopen a deeply painful chapter of his life.
