I think Abhi used Rani! Their jodi was a hit and the Bachchans even called her family. Her films were hits at that time then when her flop phase happened, they just ditched her. Aish happened way after because Abhi was involved with Dipanita at that time who thought he was serious about her.

Rani was just timepass for him!

I don't think there was anything between Rani-Abhi other than friendship, maybe she could have had a crush on him--but highly doubt it. I know KJo sort of put the idea of Aish in Abhi's mind. Abhi & Aish also got along well and were like pals. There was some BTS footage of them shooting KNK and he was a goofball and I could see why Aish was so drawn to him. He's very humble and sweet. And Abhi has even said that fate would have it that they ended up doing 3 back to back films together and he started falling for her. I honestly don't think he never fell for Rani. The only other girl he was hung over for a long time was Karishma, so much so that he had misty eyes when Simi Grewal asked him about it. But Abhi Aish look extremely happy and Rani has moved on to be malkin of YRF so everyone got their happy ending.

No doubt shes a good actress but bollywood does not truly respect real talent if it has no backing

I think we can say he "suggested" her name. Not "recommended." The latter implies some sort of personal equation which I don't think there was at the time.
