Let’s talk about impact hun. Because guess what everyone knows Shrek but nobody knows the scarecrow from Sairat. You can elevate it all you want. Dhadak made more impact and got more attention.

B) From high-level, there are 2 types of south-Indian films: meaningless commercial pot-boilers (which are also in Bollywood) and actual meaningful film.

The mindless ones are more highlighted because they're telecasted on Hindi channels for North Indian viewing, after being dubbed in the ugliest possible way.

Having said that, there is some serious obsession with masala films in almost every regional film industry, where heroes are mostly portrayed in larger-than-life characters while heroines are merely an object of lust, which is why most of the major heroines in commercial south Indian cinema are white-skinned north Indian girls.

P.S. I am from North India.😆

Really.. impossible to sit through those dubbed movies. Even the small clippings that come as whatsapp fwds r lolworthy..

But mostly people forwarding them r south Indians of relevant state..so I appreciate their sense of humour

There are some very ignorant comments being made by people here. South cinema is whooping's BW's behind in terms of footfalls and overall revenue and win-to-loss ratio. They (collective whole of Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam flms) have been performing better in terms of BO per film made. Ppl like Salman, Ajay and Akshay were able to revive their career by legit copying/remaking films over and over again.

And don't forget a lot of the National Awards are also won by so many filmmakers and artists from there so this notion ppl of South cinema being just masala flicks is absurd, y'all need to watch movies in languages you don't speak and like read the subtitles. All these pre-conceived ideas and the only reason BW remakes any movies if b/c of laziness. If they paid their writers more, actually hired new talent, etc. we wouldn't have a remake after a remake .

Im talking about things from a global perspective. Globally - no one knows that India makes regional or southern films. Im sure even our neighbours in Pakistan or China don’t know about Telu or whatever language films.

Why doesn’t a Tamil or Bhojpuri film get rumoured to be sent to the Oscars? Because nobody wants to watch it! Same with Film festivals - no one cares about these films.

Shaitan is either a precocious 4-yr old masquerding as an adult or an adult behaving childishly. Really don't have time to hold your hand through your tantrum.

Since you talked about global perspective and Film Festival

Must Watch International Award Winning Malayalam Films

Vanaprastham

The 1999 Indian French - German co-production Malayalam movie directed by Shaji N. Karun was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Los Angeles International Film Festival. The movie was also screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. The film went on to win the special prize of the jury at Istanbul International Film Festival Turkey. The performance of Mohanlal is considered as one of his best in Malayalam cinema.

Swaham

This award-winning feature film directed by Shaji N Karun was met with widespread critical acclaim upon release. The story revolves around Annapoorna who lives with her son and daughter. The film was screened at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and also went on to win Bronze Rosa Camuna at Bergamo Film Meeting in Italy. The following year ‘Swaham’ won the Best Film at Innsbruck Film Festival in Austria

Elippathayam

‘Elippathayam’ is critically considered as one of the most outstanding films in the history of Malayalam cinema. The film is an exploration of the feudal system in Kerala at its twilight. Ace director Adoor Gopalakrishnan won the British Film Institute Award for the Most Original and Imaginative film at the National Film Theatre in 1982. The movie was shown at a number of film festivals around the world, including the 1982 Cannes Film Festival

Mathilukal

This film directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan depicts the prison life of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, an outspoken writer who openly objects Britain’s imperialistic control of his homeland. Mammootty plays the role of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. 'Mathilukal' was well received upon screening at the Venice Film Festival. The movie also bagged the OCIC Awards the same year at Amiens Film Festival. In 2002, it also won an award for the best film at Aubervilliers International Children's Film Festival. Forbes included Mammootty’s performance on its list, '25 Greatest Acting Performances of Indian Cinema.'

Vidheyan

This 1993 film written and directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan is a cinematic adaption of the novel 'Bhaskara Pattelarum Ente Jeevithavum' by Malayalam writer Paul Zacharia. The film explores the master-slave dialectic in a South Karnataka setting. The film went on to win the NETPAC Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. The movie also bagged the Interfilm Award – Honourable Mention at the Mannhiem - Heidelberg International Film Festival.

In spite of this clearly being trolling, I'll respond because I don't want someone ignorant of Indian cinema reading your posts and taking it as truth.

Globally, Bollywood is mocked for its absurdity and the blatant plagiarism. The movies do make money internationally, and I personally know Russian and Chinese and White people who love it for the color and the song and dance, but not one serious movie maker thinks routine Bollywood is high art.

However, most do know south/regional cinema. Those movies get lauded at film festivals. They know Satyajit Ray, Adoor, Bharathan, and the recent ones such as Shaji Karun and Geethu Mohandas.

Take a look at the "Bollywood films" at Cannes over the years. 19 in total in 75 years, out of which 3 were what you could call mainstream BW - Guide, Awaara, and Devdas. The rest weren't Bollywood: Lunchbox, Gangs of Wasseypur etc are shunned by BW moviemakers. Yeah, they're Hindi cinema, but BW ain't entire North India. Some of the movies were not even in Hindi, eg: Pather Panchali.

......

I'd also like to address the taunt you aimed at someone: "why are you in this forum?"

Because a lot of us like masala and mindless entertainment. Doesn't mean we are blind to the utter absurdity of it all. Doesn't mean we can't enjoy actual art as well.

Globally Bollywood is mocked ? Not sure what planet you’re living on. Bollywood makes lots of

Money internationally. Not sure where you live, you might wanna get out there and get informed

When you guys don’t have a strong argument you always say I’m trolling 🤣....
