I can see from where Anu is coming here. Sheer anger & extreme emotional vulnerability.
Prerna was terribly betrayed when it all came out in a slap. I saw a grieving woman in her back then who wanted to express how hurt & disgusted she was to the man who claimed to have loved her. No one saw misandry there. We have grown up believing that a man shouldn't hit a woman under any circumstance, even if woman pushes him to that extreme where next instinctive reaction is a slap. Of course there is a power dynamic at play since even in worst of situation, we slap only those who we believe won't attack us back. If a hurt woman's physically violent reaction is acceptable, then we should reconsider our instance on men as well. Anu doesn't have a record of being a physically abusive man from the past.
As for Anu not trying to understand the pattern on this event, I think right now he is too clouded with the heartbreak to think anything else at all. Just like how Prerna was too clouded by thought of saving Anu to not even try & escape Bajaj.
Question is- Did he really want to slap her or it came as an instinctive reaction to something Prerna said to hurt him more?
Should he have slapped her? No.
Was it justified? No. But moreover, it depends on an individual perception with everything in context. A huge grey area here.
As per the clip, did Prerna smile after getting slapped as if she was expecting this to happen? If that is so then this particular scene can be interpreted in two ways-
1. Prerna said things to push Anu off the edge & he reacted with a slap. She wanted Anu to do this because at deep level she thought it would make him feel better & she subconsciously thought that she deserved it. That is kind of masochistic trait which Prerna is doing right now since she is listening to all abuses without attempting reveal anything at all.
2. Prerna pushed Anu off the edge with her words because she knew Anu would react like that & she could use his reaction to keep him away from her further & prove her point on how he isn't good for her.
Since after this incident, Anu would try really really hard to make amends with her, stalk her to confirm if she was lying, saving her from goons, ensuring her safety & then watch her go away with Bajaj with no ability to do anything, while Prerna is still in guilt of betraying him in all this & not to forget the suicide attempt.
I know the peculiar similarity with Kabir Singh's premise & director's statement. But physical reaction in emotional situations comes when a relationship has turned very toxic, when there is total failure of communication, something AnuPre relationship is right now.
I reserve my final opinion until the episode is aired.
P.S- it's my opinion for this case. Not justifying physical violence but trying to understand human reaction & psyche behind them with context in mind. So, don't bash on me for this controversial opinion. A healthy debate is welcome.
