Agreed that the films shouldn’t normalise behaviour and make it seem ok...which I don’t think KS did ...from the first shot to the last, every scene shows him to do objectionable and questionable things with his moral compass never being fully right...he’s called as sanki, psycho, Addict etc...that’s not normal in any society and those aren’t words to describe a normal guy...the film shows despicable things that he does and lets u hate him for that very reason...he’s not normal...just because he’s the title character and the lead does not make him the “hero” ...
And Grey characters don’t always need have repercussions ....wolf of Wall Street was all about an awful guy who does awful things and kinda sorta becomes ok at the end and writes a book on himself lol...people took away what they wanted to from the film...
Glorification or not depends on the person interpreting it aswell.
In Wolf of Wall Street, the guy(original guy) spent 22 months in jail (out of the 4 year jail term), his wife left him and he was fined $110 million dollars (which he still has not paid). Yes, he became an author and motivational speaker but his life is no where close to what he had before.
Also, just because someone is called psycho, sanki does not mean he is dealt as one. The thing is when a character is as twisted as that, you are not meant to root for him. People were rooting him and his love story so there lies the problem. Even in Raanjhana, we see Dhanush changing, having an arc but even he didn't get his "happy ending".
I am glad you think the movie didn't normalize his actions, but I don't think a lot of people thought like that, maybe the director should have made it clearer, but I think the director actually liked this character and wanted him to succeed, so that's problematic.
