Lol, first you don’t give dark-skinned actors a chance to shine. Then tell us that they don’t have starpower to give a hit movie.

I think u shud try making a film where Rajnikanth is passed off as Kashmiri without making any change to his look and see how many will laugh at you. Exceptions is not a norm. U clearly are out of touch with ground reality. Even Kajol was made fair and light eyed when she had to play Kashmiri in Fanaa.
And people asking filmmakers like Danny Boyle or Super 30 not to show Poor as Poor must remember this is not a Dharma or SRK film Chalte Chalte where even truck drivers are shown driving in Designer clothes. Go to slums and see how people live there and look. Film is not a documentary but commercial one. Hence, some liberty will be there.
I mean, Rajnikanth is not a Kashmiri but he is also not a South Indian. Heard he is Maharashtrian
And not all punjabis are fair! One example in BW itself is PC

Oh really? First cry for outsiders. Now cry for dark skinned actors.
How many films of Rajkumar Rao, Nawaz, Manoj Bajpayee and Pankaj hv u seen in theatres? Nil Battey Sannatta was also based on Education. And nobody knew when it came in theatres and left. It collected 6 crores lifetime. U people write essays here but not even watch their films in theatre and then keep running agenda when Producers choose a profitable choice.
Whiteface is gonna be India's Blackface.

Maharashtra also comes in South of India only. And Exceptions are not a Norm - is it tough to get this line? Even PC lightens up her skin if she plays Punjabi

I don’t usually go to theatres simply because its not my thing. The last movie I watched in a theatre was Kadwi Hawa in 2017. So, I don’t know where your assumption came from.
Producers can do whatever they want to. That doesn’t mean I won’t call out them for their colourist casting.

Obviously it does work better that way. I think one of the reasons Bhansali casted her was because during that time DeepVeer were extremely popular as a couple after Ram-Leela's success. BM was supposed to be an epic romance so 2+2=4.
As for him getting DP's skin lightened, I hope you do have a problem with HR getting painted black for Super 30? Or Alia becoming super dusky for Udta Punjab? Does this mean the directors of these films are also racists?
These people are actors, it's part of their job to change change their physical appearance as per the requirements of the role...
It is a worldwide issue when actors are painted different skin colour. Ofcourse by box office sense deepveer makes sense as they will bring audience.
But people , point is right about making actors look light. There is debate everywhere when scarlett was given ghost in shell or many whitewashing projects where fair skin got painted in other skin tone or race.
Yes there are real issues. Pls check them.if u don't know
Lol at least give a decent example 😂 there was debate when Scarlett was casted as Motoko because Scarlett is an American and Motoko is a Japanese. It's not about just skin colour, it's about being from a completely different ethnicity, culture and race.
Mastani on the other hand was an Indian and a half-Rajput and half-Persian. An actress with a fair complexion should've definitely been casted but we all know why DP was casted so no point in cribbing now. Also, yes, I have no problems with someone like Alia playing a Bihari village girl in Udta Punjab. She portrayed the character well. HR on the other hand looks ridiculous.

I have always wondered about this classic Madonna song (La Isla Bonita). It's iconic and SLB copied it in Guzaarish. It is shameful that he used...
