That's the thing. The stereotype is right there in your mind. That one should look a certain way to appear as a Bihari, Punjabi or a South Indian. Why can't a dark skinned actor play a Punjabi? Are all Punjabis in India fair skinned? Are all South Indians in India dark skinned? No. I'm talking about that. These silly stereotypical tropes that Bollywood keeps recycling from trash that you need to be of a certain color to look a part. And if the requirement is really important why not cast an equally capable actor of the correct skin tone probably in things like biopics? Now don't tell me there was no one except for Hrithik who could play the protagonist in Super 30. I mean even with that truckload of dark makeup and fake Bihari accent, he STILL looks like Hrithik Roshan and not the original guy. So where is the purpose served? Would there be any difference if he was not given that dark makeup? Why would it make him less Bihari than what he looks now?
No one is asking actors or directors to stop experimenting. It's about time they stop stereotyping. And Hrithik, Deepika and Alia are all examples of that. Actually I would take Alia out because her role still demanded that (had forgotten her character in UP in my previous post) but what's the explanation behind a bleached Deepika and a dark Hrithik? And add all that extra dirt on him. Wth is that?
Yes. All Punjabis do have certain skin color than South Indians and Kashmiris do look like a certain way. It is a Fact. As far as purpose of taking Hrithik is concerned, i think the numbers talk for itself. His trailer already got 40 Million views and 1.1 Million likes. Those who write all these long writeups will not be even talking about the film if not for Hrithik. If it was a fictional film, maybe Hrithik wud hv played the way he is. But, when he is representing someone, he has to look a certain way - even if not exact resemblence.
And had he not tanned himself, those like u would hv been first to bash him for not getting the make up right. There was no extra dirt. What you saw was Holi colors.
This film is not about a famous figure. So, it required atleast a Big star to create an impact. Also, Hrithik can pull off all the different age groups from young to 47 years. If anything, this film is breaking the Bihari stereotype where it is a place of abuses and kidnappings. It is probably the rare positive depiction of Bihar where focus is on Education and a Top Mainstream star is playing it.
