IN DEFENCE OF DIVYA (+Drishti)
So in my last Analysis over Shikhar, Many got into argument over Divya's Character, Is she the flawed twin? Is she going to end up as Shesha 2.0 or will DD take a different route and really have her end up with Shikhar? Is D just another Tellywood Vamp on her way?
The duality of Divya Drishti
When we first see grown up D, she magics herself chips and a cold drink while Drishti helps her adopted Chachi (Well tries to anyway, Chachi gets shock of her life, literally.) This scene alone shows us that While Drishti is the Responsible, Resilient and Mindful of her duty The Mature one, D is somewhat a trickster, she's got power obviously she would use it for simple trivial matters. D is a trickster, watches her comfort first (Even how laidback she dresses in early episode suggests this), fun loving, a little manipulative, self centered and outgoing, D is the textbook example of last born children (Yes even though DD are twins, CVs insist on Badi-Choti behen connection, so they apply all the traits here.) Along with Drishti who herself is the textbook example of an elder child.
Divya the Antihero
This brings to us to our next point, traditionally in storytelling, if you are not in same space as hero's motive then you are a villain, but it's been already established that PS is our Bad guy. So where does this leave Divya? Her motives are similar to Drishti, our heroine. Find her sister, find her mother's murderer, and leave happily ever after. But D definitely lack traditional heroine qualities she's not out there for anyone except for herself (Which is very practical and real, very organic to ourselves, we all selfish for something, somewhere.) D is also not very mature (she can't control her chatorapanti look how she stole Kaju Barfi on Mooh Dikhai, which is relatable AF) very quick to anger, smitten with Rakshit at first sight, and goes on to break RaVan's marriage. So what does this make her? This marks her in the territory of Anti Heroine A protagonist who lacks conventional heroic motivation and qualities and have a questionable motive.
On a basic level, good people just aren't as interesting as bad people. Most of the real-life folks we know are good, basic people. The flawed ones rich with internal conflicts and ideological dilemmas are the ones worth crafting stories about. But Flaws aren't bad; they are just a medium to apply the change. And change is good; change provides us without Flaws aren't bad; they are just a medium to apply the change. And change is good; change provides usBut Flaws aren't bad; they are just a medium to apply the change. And change is good; change provides us the opportunity to develop our character. This thing can't be done with our regular heroine. D and Drishti are two different archetypes; they can't be pit against each other (Believe me the age-old Anti Hero vs. Hero will go on forever, this question is just a paradox). Their morality is so different and drastic to each other's and that is the reason why DD dynamics is so interesting to watch.
Why is D like this?
Well aside from the fact that CVs have enforced that Badi-Choti Behen trope, a part of credit can be given to her said power, Divya has never known not getting what she wants while Drishti has probably grown up getting rebuked for everything she had done in since her childhood (Thanks Chachi!) I personally think that their powers play a great role in shaping up their characters Drishti has got future vision (Which always worked for making her see bad omens and disaster, Talk about drawing up short stick) All the bad visions have made her twitchy and paranoid, which is suggested very subtly. Drishti tends to overthink herself, btw that trait where she doesn't even complain to Rakshit about how treating her, yeah it can also be owed to Chachi, she must have enforced ask no question do everything I tell you mentality (Thanks Chachi! Again.) Drishti's home life after DD separation must have been very difficult, it's subtly implied that she was verbally abused but since we are in India, we don't see it like that. (Hell children getting beaten is a norm here. So moving on...) Drishti has so much potential to not be a regular bechari Tellywood Heroine, she can be BAMF if she is allowed (It's always the nice one...) but she's always stuck on that.(Here's to hoping we can actually see her be Bada** someday)
Now Divya, my darling here has powers that are actually voluntary and helpful in various situations. Power has made her confident but also conceited, ambitious but also selfish. She actually ended up in a decent house, had decent adoptive parents, so she hasn't had time to actually grow, but now that she's in Shergill's house, she will change, show developments and grow. Along with D's power, the mystical connection that both sisters share with Rakshit (Thanks to him being Guruji's vanshaj), this ominous connection has bound them to him, to which resulted in both of them being smitten by him (The only difference between both DD's connection to R is that Rakshit actually reciprocates Drishti's feeling and they have, will they won't they tension while D's smitten seems more like a school girl's crush,( Here's to hoping that D and Shikhar have a really organic love story, they've already got a natural chemistry #SHIVYA2kForever!!!) The bond makes both their power kick start but also activates their flaws (Divya had ride or die attitude regarding R while Drishti has more visions resulting in her becoming more paranoid and withdrawn)
Perhaps D was never actually smitten by Rakshit; she was actually going on the time with the Bond which is actually very much in character to D's fiery, do-before-think personality while Drishti tries to withdraw from him (Too bad you're married now!)
