Time to wish one of the most phenomenal actors in the Bollywood industry, Shahid Kapoor on his birthday, he turns 38 today!! 🥳
Today I will be sharing about my fondness for Shahid in this thread, and gonna share why I love him as an actor.😳 (By the way I had been inactive in the forum for many years in between so it will be after ages that I am writing something so long about him here).
This thread may get ignored by loads of members just like Shahid is being ignored a lot in this forum, but still today I will talk about how he has thrived his performances all over the years and have escalated himself into another level over time.
From breaking the image of chocolate boy in romantic films to changing his dynamic into various sort of thriller and drama films, Shahid always has been opened up to try different genres. He may have lots of flops, but his performances almost always have been acclaimed by the critics.
Before debuting in Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor worked as a background dancer in movies like Taal and Dil Toh Paagal Hai. Overall it has been a wild journey for him in this industry.
I always noticed his performances since ever my childhood starting from his debut movie Ishq Vishq (2003) opposite Amrita Rao which was a hit.
His chemistry with Amrita is something that the audience still cherish for.
Together, the duo did several more movies including Shikhar, Vaah! Life Ho to Aisi! (both the mentioned movies did not do well in the box office), and finally a Blockbuster Vivah.
However, I became a fan of Shahid wayy later on. I started to become fond of him after I watched him in Jab We Met. His character was very calm in nature which everyone is already aware of, and this role would be something very different for Shahid to play rather than his conventional roles.
Still that year Kareena Kapoor took all the limelight for her role as Geet, she deserved it anyways. While Shahid started to get noticed by many directors since that time.
Then he did Kismat Connection which was an average in the box office (note: earlier it was supposed to be done by SRK and Juhi Chawla as leads but later on it got recasted by Shahid and Vidya).
What I liked the most in Kismat Konnection was his role and the way he emoted the character as an architect.
Still he could not break the image of a chocolate boy until he got the project of 'Kaminey' by Vishal Bhardwaj in 2009 where he got to play double roles. The movie made him win several awards. His character Charlie is still remembered, due to his pronunciation issue for speaking 'Sa' as 'Fa'.
In between, Shahid did movies like Chance Pe Dance, Mausam, Teri Meri Kahani, Phata Poster Nikla Hero, R...Rajkumar which created enough buzz over the media but failed in the box office. While Badmaash company and Dil Bole Hadippa did an average.
Again, the Vishal and Shahid duo roped in and gave 'Haider' movie in 2014 which was a hit and received many positive reviews by the critics. The movie is still the best he has gotten in his lots till date and his acting was just of another level there! Shahid Kapoor won the Filmfare best actor award for the first time due to his performance in Haider.
Shahid impressed us once again through his role Tommy Singh from Udta Punjab in 2016. For that he won the Filmfare best actor award in critic category in 2017.
His movies Shaandaar, Rangoon also could not meet up the expectations in the box office, but still his screen presence was enough to charm the audience. His performance in Rangoon has to be one of the best in his acting career.
He may not have a meatier role in Padmavaat, but I liked his chemistry with Deepika there and he did his best to nail the role of Rawal Ratan Singh no matter how less screen presence he had.
From his earlier movies, he was splendid in Fida.
One thing which I like the most about Shahid is that, no matter how many failures he has faced in between, he is still unstoppable.
According to me, he is one of the most versatile actors the Bollywood industry has ever gotten and he is great not only as an actor, but as a dancer as well.
Indeed Shahid Kapoor is an actor who refused to age, found a pic of him from 10 years ago (on the left) which is totally similar to his current face (on the right). He has fulfilled 10 years challenge gracefully indeed.😉
