So, a few days ago or was that weeks, maybe a month or two? Well whatever... In times when the forum used to be buzzing with activity and we would all eat up one AT per day speculating the next weekend's episode, when the forum was at the peak of its glory and when we all had a reason to come here as often as possible I had made a post.
So today, almost two months later I make another one. This is a sequel to that one.
Naagin 3 is truly a feminist show. Produced by a woman, written by two most amazing and forward thinking women this show is pure gold. Any one who is not watching this show is missing out on finding out the true meaning of feminism. We as a generation really need to understand the true meaning of the word and the concept. Only then will there be cultural progress and only then the country will get rid of the so called regressive mindset.
Naagin 3 started off as a really regressive TV show about Naagins and true love and revenge. It went on to touch the concept of soul mate, unconditional support and loyalty as well. It had a really regressive male lead who was so weak that he always supported his wife, who trusted her, who analysed every single thing, who thought about things logically, who had plenty of questions but also had the patience to wait for his wife to answer them. This man was a man in true sense. He never forced his wife to do anything against her wises, he never questioned her intentions, he followed her even if he was not clear as to what and why she was doing a certain thing. He bore her hatred with a smile on his face and unconditional love in is heart.
This show was so regressive that the audience HATED the show. They outright rejected the show by ensuring that it stayed in the TOP 3 constantly. So the brilliant writers and the oh so intelligent makers decided to do something about the show. The audience outrage was too much to bear and so they went on to reveal to the male lead about his wife being the murderer of his only brother under such circumstances that made her look like a vamp and his lusty and rapist brother as an innocent victim. He hated her naturally but when he found out about the whole truth, he told her that he hated her but he would not get her punished. He told her to leave him alone.
That was when he started manning up. The process got completed and he became a true man when his loving and caring mother kissed him on his forehead like any loving mom would seeing her favourite son in distress. Sumitra's love was so powerful that Mahir became an ideal son who never questioned his mother, who blindly followed her every word.
Soon the progressive writers introduced a twist that Bella was sleeping with her brother-in-law her ex finace Yuvi. Some photos proved their affair and like a true man Mahir called his wife characterless. Bella too like a true feminist sobbed and cried and tried to prove her innocence to her husband and her in-laws. Another character Vish, Bella's old frenemy and Yuvi's (Actually Vikrant's wife but due to circumstances and the fact that VIk was using Yuvi's face when he married her) wife claimed that she was pregnant with Mahir's child. (The non-existent child in question was supposedly Yuvi's just a couple of days ago)
Our ever progressive writer proved that exchanging wives between the brothers was the way forward in future. That is true feminism. True sexual freedom and liberty to women. Women were finally free to choose their sexual partners. Moving forward, like a true man Mahir wasted no time in throwing his wife out of their room and inviting his younger brother's wife to share his room. In truly manly fashion he presented his wife with divorce papers and announced that he would be marrying Vish that day itself.
Now this feminism in true sense. Generally a woman who lives with a married man is called his mistress if the said man is not divorced. No court in this country can legalize the marriage unless and until the previous marriage is completely and fully dissolved. But our progressive writers showed us what true feminism is when Vish was not called the other woman even once. In fact Mahir and Vish were scheduled to marry with great pomp.
Bella behaved in a very unfeminine way when she kidnapped Mahir from the wedding altar and then managed to get herself pushed from the cliff.
By now the audience had truly begun to love and appreciate the show with it's unique concept of a man blindly following his mother, a sexually frustrated mother-in-law throwing her DIL out from her son's bedroom with a promise to never let them become one (read to never let them consummate their marriage), a husband being a true man by calling his wife characterless and wasting no time in inviting his younger brother's wife to sleep with him.. The audience showed it's love and support to the track by raising the show from top 3 to 7th position overall with a significant rise in the ratings as well.
Since the viewer were loving this track so much, our very forward makers decided to explore new angle of feminism. A slightly regressive one no doubts but then not all tracks can be as brilliant and progressive as a bother-in-law supposedly sleeping with his sister-in-law right? In the meanwhile our terrifically talented writer came up with two trending hashtags.

These were so powerful that we eagerly wait for the next weekend to come when they will introduce us to more feminist concepts, each better than the last.
So back to the lesser progressive but nevertheless feminist concept. Mahir became a child due to his mother's loving kiss and Bella became his savior. She came back with a new face and identity and married Mahir. Now she is seen saving Mahir from various dangers like killer swimming tanks and fish nets when Mahir inevitably gets stuck in them.
People who are screaming for bigger role for Mahir are not getting the essence of it. For years women were used as props on TV and in flims. Now for a change the man is the prop. Isn't this progress in true sense?
This reminds me of a quote by the very progressive Prof. Umbridge (Harry Potter reference for the muggles here)
Progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged. Let us preserve what must be preserved, perfect what can be perfected and prune practices that ought to be prohibited.
Old Mahir was not at all ideal. Which man never shouts at his wife? Which man never forces his wife? Which true man will always love and support his wife? So our brilliant writers in true Prof. Umbridge style discouraged the progress of such dangerous and poisonous character and made him truly unique. They perfected the imperfect character of Mahir and pruned out the potentially harmful practices and beliefs like love and unconditional support.
So guys don't you all think that Naagin 3 has truly become a progressive and a feminist show in last one month or so?
