The moment they hit 18, They get targeted by creeps like Khans, Kapoors etc and moment they get 30 or get married, they are forgotten like no tomorrow whereas as men in their 50s still think that they are some kind of college students and juveniles.

Actresses like Tabu,Vidya, rani and kajol still get movies. Cause they are Good.
Most of the actresses that are gone were there probably because they were not that good.
Even sridevi was making an impact.
In '79 a 42 yr old Nutan won best actress.
If someone is good they will make it.

I feel bad for actresses as most great roles are written for males. Males get more iconic and acting-related roles whereas mostly women are eye-candy.

But why is that? Also due to the fact that most people who work in the industry are males. Maybe they are unable to write female characters or write in a female perspective.

I feel bad for female audiences. Very few times i have actually felt connected or relatable with the characters.

Just take example Padmavat.
The movie is titled after the main female character. But who shined the most-Khijli.
The character development for padmavat was not up to the mark.

Sonam Kapoor has 3 best actress nomination(filmfare) and she is just mediocre.
BW is in need of better actress and female characters.
Not all girls are bubbly/OTT. Not all girls are damsel in distress. Women are doing everything from pilot to astronaut.

Deepika won best actress for Ram Leela where she was totally upstaged by suproia pathak. I found no soul/deepness in her character also for Ranveer. The movie belonged to supriya. We need better writing of female characters.

If your a good actress age or married status don't matter, example is Vidya, Tabu and konkona sen, great actresses who deliver. Even Surekha Sikri winning best supporting actress at the age of 73 years old. Talent wins at the end of the day. Current top actresses are mediocre acting or don't even know how to act.

They don't get equal opportunities as actors. Why are only good actresses have the chance to lead the female oriented roles? Why can't opportunities to be equal for all? That said, there is nothing fair in this world. While we talk about male vs female discrimination, there is nepotism to tackle. I guess if u are lucky and hardworking at the right time right place, things will work out.

They aren't in the big mainstream movies though are they? The only time they are it's opposite the Khans but even that's rare as Khans prefer younger actresses. I can't remember the last time Tabu was in a big movie... And no Andhadhun wasn't a big mainstream film that's why people were surprised a small movie did so well. Vidya is nowhere to be seen lately. Rani and Kajol don't get big movies either except Kajol who SRK only took because he thought he could bank on the nostalgia.

How many of the women you named are getting the big Dharma movies? Let's be real Bollywood is agiest af.

When actresses hit 40 and if they're still working they get relegated to only doing moderate to small budgeted movies or indies. Producers don't even think twice to throw money at financing movies for 50+ actors.

Yes, the women have far less opportunities as compared to men but I think what they r doing with them speaks a lot about them. In Padmavaat khilji May have had the author backed role but DP fronted the movie against all threats and she did well in the limited arc of her character. There was Raazi with Alia front and centre. There was Veere di which was from and about women which did well. Pari was another overlooked gem and Anushka was really good in it. Tabu performance in andhadhun, Rani in hichki and to top it all Kat in Zero. Yes the opportunities are limited but the women are still coming out strong. And with Anushka, Sonam and now DP having their own production company it's going to be hopefully better . I may not have liked Anushka performance in some of the commercial films but can't fault her in her home produced movies. Both the content and her performance in it has been top notch .
But yes the directors need yo be a bit more inclusive about the female characters. Even women directors like Zoya Akhtar and Farah Khan are busy creating male driven movies with a male point of view so that definitely is disheartening

Let's wait and watch because I have a feeling some of the married actresses career will be over by their next movie so you can say things really are not changing. Only few changes are made so far. But the big change is the women oriented roles that actresses are doing now.

No offense but some people here sound so ignorant. They literally pick out one of two exceptions and say no yaar not like this... look how well Vidya is doing.
Really? Is Vidya at the same level as all the other married or non-married actors who are her age or older. The thing is no matter how great you are it is harder for an actress because they have an expiration date at their early to mid 30s.

First of all Vidya is not doing that well. She struggles for meaty roles. Second, she is an exception rather than the rule.

Women have it harder in every industry but things are drastically changing now esp in BW. This decade has been a game changer for heroines. 2018 just made it clear that good content work irrespective of who is the protagonist.
