Gargi,

Aha, so this is called chane ke pedh par chadhana! You flatterer, do you really think I am going to believe even a fracton of all this makkhan that you have slathered on so liberally? 😉 But all the same, it feels good to read it !

And then it is wonderful to be back with you, and your totally unpredictable statements. I still remember your skewering a comment of mine about Jodha with an excellent dissertation on the nature of courage. I was most impressed.

Now, your wanting to see more of me here is most pleasing, kid, but I would need advance immunity assurances from you for the kind of things I would be likely to write.😉 Not to speak of anticipatory bail from Warning Levels😉.

See, I am not prepared to join you juveniles in gushing over this Karuruvi - howzzat for starters? If you will promise not to want to clobber me, I would say that this Karna is uni-expression, and terminally mournful looking, like an undertaker's assistant (who has to look more mournful than the undertaker😉). But who here would agree with me, and not jump down my throat in passionate defence of the chap?

Whenever I look at him onscreen, I am mentally photoshopping Aham on to him (not that I know how to do that). Kya karoon, I can't help regretting that they did not sign the ultimate Karna for this show. He would have surely accepted it.

Is this Kunti the same actress as the Satyavati of the Mahabharata? I felt so at first, but the close ups have made me feel uncertain. In any case, Kunti was a widow at this time, and in those days, a widow would never have dressed up like this, with so many jewels. She would have been in white, with no ornaments at all.

And this Shakuni does not even limp! Praneet Bhatt would come instantly to mind, if it were not that comparisons are forbidden under the forum rules!

My RA is as bad as ever, and at times worse. My fingers often flaunt their autonomy and start moving sideways. This is one of my good weeks, and I am sure bad times are round the corner. And I have discovered that one does not have to be an AA case to have a liver that is shot to pieces. It was due to the RA medication.

The funniest part of that phase was that I once fainted, for all the world like a Victorian heroine, on my own doorstep. Those young ladies usually only fainted when there was a Prince Charming around to catch them as they collapsed artistically.😉 For me, apart from the fact that I was 70 and not 17, there was no Prince Charming but only the shocked gardener!!😆😆

OK, this is more than enough. I shall turn up from time to time if you are there.

Take care, child.

And look who I've bumped into. 😲 My ever favorite ever loved Shyamala auntie 🤗
How much I missed you ! Missed your delicious writing , missed your witty quips , missed your amazing posts , missed your sparkling presence and most of all , I missed you calling me " You imp" 😳, which always, without any fail , made warmth burst inside me like standing under the Sun on a frigid unforgiving Winter day.

What a gorgeous comparison, my dear! Thank you!! Of course you are an imp, and a most entertaining one!

How are you my beloved Auntie ?? How's your RA ?? I hope you're in the peach of your health and can I hope to see more of you in the coming days ?? Please ?? If that's not any trouble with our rest or reading of course. It's just that I missed your company . 😭

Isko kehte hain magarmachch ke aansoo, but I shall give you the benefit of the doubt! Never mind. I am so fond of you that I would not mind anything you do, even your not posting a single comment on my Porus threads, and then vanishing altogether like the capricious little wretch that you are.😉 Those posts were in any case nowhere near as good as my Jodha Akbar ones, or even my Mahakumbh posts. The material was mediocre, and so were my posts.

Ahh you know Auntie , I can't forget Aham even if I tried . 😉 Aham is divine .. Ahem.. I mean... he looks divine .. Umm.. his torso especially looks divine... his chest and waist specifically..

Okay, I'm deviating. 😆 Not my fault you see . Why on earth would you make an extremly good looking guy wear those low waist dhoti with a small chest wrap ( can't call it shawl , more like scarf ).. A girl gets ideas 😉

Well, I seem to remember you fantasising on identical lines while discussing Aham as Ashoka in the Bharatvarsha series, so clearly nothing has changed.😉

In this respect, Karnsangini must be somewhat disappointing, as the only low waist dhoti that I could spot was Duryodhana's , and I don't think you would be interested in his having a wardrobe malfunction!😆

You are not just an imp, you are one of most wicked and shameless specimens of that genus!😆

Please excuse my naughty nature auntie , I'm just kidding. 😆 I've a lot of respect for him as an actor and human being ( I've talked with him at length over phone not once but thrice . He's imply the nicest sweetest kindest soul imaginable in a tv actor . )

I am glad to know that he is as good a person as he is an actor. I so wish he gets roles to suit his talent.

I'm forever grateful to him for how he portrayed my Suryaputra with such finesse , that he's become the face of Karna rightfully . What an inspired casting he was ! 👏 He's currently doing a great job with Samrat Vikramaditya and as expected from him, owning the role like no body's business. 👏 Have you tried that show Auntie ?? It's really good. Our Aham is simply made for larger than life roles.

I have just discovered that 6 episodes are over ; the stupid channel did not even advertise the beginning. But I shall catch up with it pronto. I would not miss him for anything. Then again, I would love to see a TV version of one of my favourite stories, the Betaal Pachchisi.

Karna pe show bane aur mein na au , aisa kabhi ho sakti hai 😳 He's my idol as well as my inspiration . Whenever I feel like life is throwing more lemons at me than I can handle , I close my eyes and remember Karna and pray to the Sun God to make me as brave and dauntless to face life as his son was and I feel energized , like I've taken a fresh Sun bath. 😳

You should write more, my dear. Your comparisons are so unusual.👏 But from what I know of you, you would have caught all the lemons, made lemon squash with them. and gone off on your hospital round re-energised!😉 How is the work going, and when are you going to start practising on your own?

See you Auntie ?? Soon ?? 😳

Sooner than you expected, I would bet!

Gargi, you imp! 😉 What about the Karna you adored, Aham Sharma? Usko bhool gayi kya? I plan to watch Vikram aur Betaal only for him.

As for this Karna, as you are already spellbound, I shall say nothing. Whether the lead pair set the screen on fire or not, tum to wo kar hi dogi!😆

In any case, I was only looking in to see what was happening, and have no notion of settling down here. There would hardly be any room for an oldie like me in what bids fair to be a fangirl fest.😉 Have a lot of fun, my dear.

Hope everything is fine with you, and that you have not been up to too much mischief!😉

I understand, my dear (your id is beautiful, but a tad long for typing each time, so I have left it out).

I am Tamil, and thus not a Hindi speaker by birth, but my Hindi is good and so I could readily spot the jarring anachronisms. There are Urdu words in practically every sentence!

I agree with you about the casting. Shakuni is most unimpressive, he does not look at all scheming and cunning, but as flat as a pancake. As I noted earlier, he doesn't even limp! Dhritharashtra has not spoken a word till now. 😉 I like this Duryodhana, who looks more like a normal person that the usual snarling villain of the kind shown in both the Mahabharatas, the 1998 one and the recent one.

Draupadi is of course yet to come. I don't know how they will fit her into this story.

What I tried to say is using normal Hindi was not a mistake from their side but rather they did it intentionally.

And I didn't realize they were using Urudu words in between..As an non-hindi speaker I can't differentiate Hindi and Urudu words used commonly..even then I felt something is off about the language they are using..if they used Urudu then that's a grave mistake indeed.

Casting of Shakuni and Dritharashtra is worst I think.

Except for Karna,Uruvi,Arjuna,Kunti,Droupadi,Parashuram and Duryodhana rest of the casting is poor.

Whatever they might have said to cover up their mistake, it is awful to have to listen to so many Urdu words in a mythological. As najma says, they make one cringe.

Any number of very successful historical and mythological shows have been made with perfect Hindi, with no mixture of Urdu, like Devon ke Dev Mahadev, Maharana Pratap. and even Jodha Akbar, where the Rajput characters spoke pure Hindi, and no one had any problem understanding those shows.

As for the characters, as everyone is already swooning over this Karna, I need say nothing. Shakuni is very poor, and the comparison with Praneet Bhatt is bound to arise. And he does not even limp! Kunti was a widow, and she would never have dressed in all this jewellery. Dronacharya does not inspire the awe he should.

Aww Auntie thank you , you made me nostalgic ,coz it was our first encounter. Thank you for your sweet words on a post that I wrote ek dum dil se.

Now, your wanting to see more of me here is most pleasing, kid, but I would need advance immunity assurances from you for the kind of things I would be likely to write.😉 Not to speak of anticipatory bail from Warning Levels😉.

Auntie , jis din mein aur aap kisi visay pe puri tarha sehemat honge , us din Surya dev pashshim disha se niklenge 😉 So bring it on. 😛

I started watching Karnuruvi with a huge bias towards the previous Karna played by Aham, who knows that better than you. But Aashim won me over 😳. For me , he passed the fire test. I'll write a post in detail in the Main forum with scene mentioned and all , as to where and how I found his acting exceptional and how he's not trying to step into any one's shoes , but he's making his own shoes , from the leather , and then wearing it and strutting it.
I'll pm you the link of the thread , as soon as it's up , how about that ?? 😳 I'll value your raw unfiltered opinion . 😳

Whenever I look at him onscreen, I am mentally photoshopping Aham on to him (not that I know how to do that). Kya karoon, I can't help regretting that they did not sign the ultimate Karna for this show. He would have surely accepted it.

Yup, of course she is. Sayantani Ghosh, a Bengali actress , therefore , being a Bong myself , I'm biased towards her . 😉 She's amazing in grey roles , so I'm clueless why the makers are hell bent on white painting an outright deep gray character like Kunti , after casting her for this role. Lost potential. 😕

And this Shakuni does not even limp! Praneet Bhatt would come instantly to mind, if it were not that comparisons are forbidden under the forum rules!

Ahh Auntie , apne kya socha ?? 😉 Aap mera test lenge aur mein pass nehi karungi ??😉 Mein fail ho jayungi to wo aap ki hi Amaryada hogi , keu ki fir ye lagega aapne ayogya pe itna pyar lutaya 😆
You and I both know well that Shakuni NEVER limped, he was absolutely fit and could run like a deer ( he did just that many times during the great battle ) . So, for once huge Kudos to the makers for showing authentic fact of Mahabharat in this regard.
It was just an improvisation done by BRC , an inaccuracy that other versions followed. Ironically BRC MB did show many such distortions , which were less glaringly obvious so they passed through the filter.
The only problem I'd with Praneey Bhatt's iconic Shakuni was his limping . 🤢 Distortion to aise hi hoga , lekin physical features to distort mat karo ! 😕 😡
It's a huge relief to finally see a Shakuni who doesn't limp. 😃 👏

Have you consulted with your physicial , Auntie ?? Nowadays massive research is going on medical field and newer RA drugs are being discovered almost every day , which are less toxic and more potent. Though I must say RA is one of the areas like several other bone diseases where doctors are , I hate to admit , in a idiopathic condition ( it's a professional joke among us : Doctor is an idiot and patient's condition is pathetic. ) . Nothing seems too work after a certain degree of improvement and the drugs can be changed but never stopped.
Take care of your kidney too auntie . Regular check ups are absolutely mandatory ( I knowyou already know all these , but it's my love for you that makes me reinforce ) , since the kidneys are more affected than liver due to continuous drug intake.

I find nothing funny in that. It makes me feel worried. What was cause of the fainting ?? Was it an isolated event , or are you having fainting spells ?? 😕

OK, this is more than enough. I shall turn up from time to time if you are there.

Do please. It'll be a pleasure , since we don't get much chance to as they say- hang aroung. 😳

Take care, child.

Thanks for your sweet words..and it's ok..btw I am Sneha(its absolutely alright if you forget the name)

I am Tamil, and thus not a Hindi speaker by birth, but my Hindi is good and so I could readily spot the jarring anachronisms. There are Urdu words in practically every sentence!

So we are neighbors..i am from Kerala.. I have never been to North and whatever little bit Hindi I know I learned it from Hindi soaps.

I didn't even knew Shakuni was handicapped before you mentioned it..I am not much interested in mythology, but has always admired Karna and Ekalavya.. watching this show only because of Karna and Tejasswi Prakash. i am loving how they are portraying Duryodhana..a normal grey shaded person.. and casting is good too.
Draupadi is of course yet to come. I don't know how they will fit her into this story.
Droupadi is an impactful character in Mahabharata and I wanted someone good in her role..i am happy they chose an A lister tv heroine for that role, and I have watched few clips of Siya ke ram and she seemed good..In Karnas wife book Droupadi had a solid role.

Shyamala Cowsik (Aunty? I am 70)

I am used to calling elder women as "Chechi" irrespective of their age..I have never used the word aunty and I hope you won't mind if I call you Didi.

Of course not, my dear Sneha (which is a very nice name too) , and in fact I would like it if you called me Chechi. I am called all sorts of things by my young friends here : Aunty, Periyamma, Di, Akka , and this would be a nice new addition to the list!

As for Shakuni's limping, it seems, from the translations of the Adi Parva that I have checked, that he was not crippled in this fashion in the original Mahabharata.

But he was shown as such in the last two TV Mahabharatas, the 1988 0ne and the more recent one. I think what they wanted to emphasise was that he was crooked both in mind and in body, and by now the TV audience, like me, would have started expecting him to limp!😉

It is rather like Shakespeare's take on Richard III of England and his hunchback , in his play of that name, though it has now been found that he never had a hunchback at all!

As for this Shakuni, I am not sure as yet. When he is insisting on the Rakta Vachan, he does seem to be limping slightly.

Shyamala Chechi.

It's Shyamala Chechi then🤗
He is limping here as well.
After reading about Shakunis back story ,I think he is not as bad as he is made out to be in the modern MB versions...What kuru dynasty did to him was not fair either.
