Which holy book? Vedas, Puranas, Gita? What you are stating is wrong. Non-Veg food is part of rajasik and tamsik bhojans and not satwik bhojan. Also unlike most other religions hinduism is not one religion, it has many sects in it. Just for example find out what was bali pratha in kamakhya temple one of the most famous temple in India.Remember hinduism unlike what is projected by many, is much more inclusive than you think.

In spite of following path of any faith, one's food habits are their own personal choice. All are free to follow what they want to eat.
Food habits depends on one's work pattern too. Those who are doing physical work, needs more strength, can eat tamasik food. Sattvik food is eaten by those following yogic life style, without much physical work. Rajasik food is spicy & stimulated, at times difficult to digest.
People choose food types which suites their life style & belief system, which is not like earlier times.
Contestant's activities inside the house, are open for discussion, not their Religious traits.
