Dangal's trailer was absolutely perfect example of how trailers should be done.

Patakha trailer was a disaster. It looked like a mini film. If I know so much about the plot from its trailer, I woulnt watch the movie.

YEEESSS.

Trailers are of poor quality, both HW and BW trailers, not only do they give away the blueprint of the plot, but are made/edited/directed so poorly.. maybe with a very few exceptions, but none so good that I can recall. Even if they do not give away the plot, somehow they don't surprise us anymore? And not to forget, how most mainstream ones seem more or less alike, with similar punchy music, similar cuts, similar drops in music, and flashy blinky images. :p

A trailer should be made such that, no matter how shitty the film may be, no matter how overdone the story may be - it ought to pique our curiosity, bring out an eagerness from us.

Sometimes I feel like, poor trailer = poor film.. Whether the movie is worth watching or not is besides the point. But strictly speaking about quality of a movie only in technical or film-making sense, I think one can gauge a lot from how a trailer is made.

I feel yester-year trailers of HW, with that trailer voice-over were better, although, some were very poorly representative of the movie. (i.e., movie was radically far, far better than trailers, some trailers could cheat us into dropping the film). I don't know about yester-year BW trailers. But atleast, the low exposure for movie pre-release was enough to keep up our interest.

Makes me conclude, it must be difficult to put a film through a couple of minutes and leave a strong impression.. or we humans have consumed so much of cinema that nothing surprises us anymore..
