How important is soundtrack to selling a movie?

I have no interest in seeing Loveyatri but you cannot deny that the music is awesome. Can you ignore the rest of a movie just for a killer soundtrack?

By soundtrack, if you mean songs... then... not very, but it surely helps in selling the movie..

But, if you mean background score - it DOES!!!!!!!!!!!! Cannot stress the importance of good background score enough. It can magically improve the enjoyment of a film by multiple times because it sets the mood of a scene, gives any scene a great effect and impacts our experience of watching.

I just watched TOH trailer, for example, and maybe I am in the minority but I am turned off by the background score. Not only do the visuals not help, but the audio/music gives it a very non-Indian feel and I daresay, even trashy film feeling.. IMO.. while especially dealing with something related to our country's past.. Now imagine if the background score was infused with heavy Indian instrumental music..
