Village Rockstars, an Assamese film is the official India entry for Os

In the race to Oscars 2019, this year, Village
Rockstars, an Assamese film has been
declared as the official entry from India. As
we all know, last year, Rajkummar Rao's
starrer Newton was India's official entry to
the Academy Awards. However, Newton was
unable to be selected in the Best Foreign
Film category. Remember we had informed
you that there are about 28 films that are
contending to be India's official entry which
included Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat,
Meghna Gulzar's Raazi and Shoojit Sircar's
October. As a matter of fact, Rima Das's
Assamese film Village Rockstars
outnumbered films like Padmaavat and
Raazi to make a place for itself in the run to
win an Oscar.
Interestingly, Village Rockstars is the first
Assamese film that has been selected for
foreign category at the Academy Awards
from India and we are sure this piece of
news is surely going to make the director
proud. For all those who don't know, Village
Rockstars is a 2017 Indian Assamese
language film written and directed by
filmmaker Rima Das. In 2017, the film was
premiered at the 2017 Toronto
International Film Festival (TIFF). Plus, the
film went on to win accolades at the 65th
National Film Awards by winning the Best
Feature Film Swarna Kamal' award.
After winning the National Award, director
of the film, Rima Das had said, "My sincere
gratitude to @shekharkapur & National
Awards Jury for awarding Village Rockstars
with Best Film of India, Child Actor-Bhanita

-Mallika Das! I am speechless. I have no
words to express my joy. It's a huge
recognition for us!
When we contacted filmmaker Jahnu Barua,
she expressed her sense of happiness and
said "It is good news for Assamese cinema.
As for the state helping the film the
filmmaker will have to make a lot of efforts
for promotion of the film. If the film has
been selected, it must have deserved it. I
know Rima Das she is good talent.
Village Rockstars is the story of a girl named
Dhunu, who grows up in poverty and learns
to fend for herself. During such a testing
time, Dhunu does not give up and works
hard to follow her dream of forming a rock
band and owning a guitar someday. Village
Rockstars is all set to hit the theatres on
September 28, 2018.
