1. After Sanjay Leela Bhansalis Saawariya failed Ranbir, apparently on advice from his well-wishers, decided to completely dissociate himself from Bhansali and his cinema. Ranbir was offered practically everything that the director has made since Saawariya. He said no to all of them.

2. Thinks with his heart. Chose to work with childhood pal Siddharth Anand, first in Bachna Ae Haseenon which as Ranbir's second release did not quite make the grade. Pushing along stubbornly with his heartfelt impulses he did another film with Siddharth, the disastrous Anjaana Anjaani. After that Ranbir swore never to work with Anand again. Gyan after apocalypse?

3. Said no to Raj Kumar Santoshi, the guy who structured Ranbir's biggest hit to date Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and also gave him a co-star who became a lot more. When Santoshi went back to Ranbir with Phata Poster Nikla Hero with a role he had written specially for Ranbir, the whimsical emotional star played hookey. Reluctantly Raj made the film with Shahid Kapoor. With disastrous results.

4. Ranbir's career moves seem worse than suicide bombing. He said no to Aditya Chopra. Which actor in India does that? This is when Ranveer Singh stepped into the picture.

5. While Ranveer Singh did Band Baja Baaraat and Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl, Ranbir did Shimit Amin's Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year the biggest flop in the history of Yash Raj Films, and Anjaani Anjaani the biggest flop in producer Sajid Nadiadwalas career.

6. Ranveer won the confidence of Sanjay Bhansali the visionary filmmaker who could've taken his discovery Ranbir to glorious heights. Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela changed the course of Ranveer's career and put him firmly ahead of Ranbir Kapoor.

7. A month ahead of Ranveer's Ram Leela came Ranbir's Besharam, a crippling setback that would've wiped out the career of a lesser star actor. Within a month the two young actors' careers were re-defined in opposite directions. The contrast was glaring and visible to everyone.

8. Ranveer was replaced by Ranbir overnight in Bombay Velvet. After finalizing Ranveer's dates director Anurag Kashyap unapologetically signed on Ranbir who showed interest in the film. Released in May 2015 Bombay Velvet was the mother of all flops. A month later in June 2015 Ranveer had another career-redefining role in Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do which, surprise surprise, Ranbir had turned down.

9. Ranveer's a people's person. Ranbir abhors all social interaction. He is not to be found on any micro-blog. He prefers isolation to adulation.

10. Ranbir has annoyed Salman Khans fans to the extent that they constantly abuse the younger actor.Ranbir has made no effort to resolve the situation. Ranveer has so far never got into a sticky situation with any one from the entertainment industry.

An open letter to Vicky Kaushal: Ranbir Kapoor struggled hard to match up to your talent in Sanju

Sanju is already a blockbuster, but while the film is making money in the name of being a Rajkumar Hirani film, Sanjay Dutt's biopic and Ranbir Kapoor star power the real success for the film should be credited to Vicky Kaushal's mind-blowing performance which even Ranbir struggled to match up to.

Already the second biggest blockbuster of 2018, Sanju is getting all the love and adulation there is to get. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanjay Dutt biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani, while not without its flaws, has the movie going audience raving about it on social media and on other platforms. The film has already made over Rs 187 crore at the domestic box-office and is on its way to hit the Rs 200 mark in its first week.

While Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor is running away with most of the credit for this film's success, fans, critics and even Bollywood celebrities have expressed their love for supporting actors in the film, such as Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.

However, Vicky Kaushal in particular has been not only a fan favourite in the film, but also a hit in the eyes of Bollywood celebs. His captivating performance as Kamli, Sanju's best friend from the US won hearts and compelled even celebrities like Aamir Khan and Karan Johar to give a special mention about his performance on their social media accounts.

In our opinion, Vicky Kaushal was better as a performer in the film compared to the even Ranbir Kapoor, who was stellar in his performance of Sanjay Dutt here's why:

Not the lead

Unlike Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal wasn't playing the lead character in the film. However, there are times when, in a film a supporting character performs so well that he ends up overshadowing the lead character. We saw it in the 2008 Christopher Nolan film The Dark Knight where Heath Ledger, who was playing The Joker outshined even the male lead in the film Christian Bale's Batman.

Same can be said about the 1993 film Darr, in which Shah Rukh Khan's menacing and psychotic performance overshadowed Sunny Deol, who was the lead star in the film. In this one too, Vicky Kaushal's performance as a simple-minded Gujarat boy' was so captivating to watch that at times, we forgot that Ranbir Kapoor is the bigger star.

Less screen-time

It goes without saying that the male lead in the film will always get a lot more screen-time than the supporting actor. Similarly, in this film as well, it was all about Ranbir Kapoor playing Sanjay Dutt throughout the film. However, even in the limited screen-time, Vicky Kaushal managed to get the same amount of praise and adulation from fans and celebs, which means that his performance was so enthralling that the audience decided to regard him with the same love and affection as they did to Ranbir.

Playing a weaker character compared to Ranbir

The biggest reason Vicky Kaushal should get a lot more credit than Ranbir Kapoor for Sanju is because the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil star was playing the dream role. A character doesn't get anymore interesting than that of Sanjay Dutt. Being the most controversial Bollywood celebrity, Sanju's character is layered and very flawed which would have made for an interesting watch irrespective of the actor playing it.

However, Vicky Kaushal's character of a simply Gujarati boy chasing his American dream is arguably as clich as it gets. To make such a character not only interesting but also charismatic on-screen is truly worthy of all the praise and more. It's easy to play a layered character in an interesting manner but to play a bland character in an interesting way and managing to keep the audience engaged, that another level of awesome.
