Who benefitted more from their role?

They swapped role.

Urmila was to do Karisma's role in DTPH and Karisma was to do Urmila's but then this happened.

Who do you think benefitted roles by switching? They both quit cause they didn't want to do a supporting role opposite SRI and Madz.

Both movies were hit and they both got acclaim too.

Karishma had Raja Hindustani before it so it wasn't her big break. Urmila had Rangeela as well.

But who do you think got a bigger push? May be Karishma? But she never made it to #1 but neither did Urmila.

So what say?

Obviously the mega success of Dil To Pagal Hai benefited Karishma's career a lot. Because she overshadowed Madhuri in both acting & dancing which is a big deal.

But Urmila couldn't overshadow Sridevi in Judaai. Judaai is straight away known only for Sri's performance. So her forgettable performance dint helped her career much.

But after DTPH, Karishma went to give strings of hits Biwi No. 1, Jaanwar, Haseena Man Jayegi, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Fiza, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge etc & dethroned Madhuri to become the no.1 actress for sometime.. until Kareena, Rani, Preity, Aishwarya took over.

I do not think Karisma was ever #1. It was Kajol after Madz and then came PZ/Rani.

Urmila was completely overshadowed by sri in judai. While Karishma not only made her presence known but give a stiff competition to madhuri in dancing and acting. DTPH had two female leads . judai had one female lead and one supporting actress imo

Definitely Karishma. She was amazing in DTPH. Also she won National Award for DTPH.

Remembering those times... I think Karisma was on a roll after Raja Hindustani - in 1997 alone, she had Judwaa, Hero#1 and then DTPH, and in DTPH her role was more on par with Madhuri than just being a 'supporting role', which I would think Akshay Kumar had in DTPH instead.

I remember Juhi saying she had made a superstar out of Karisma because Juhi had rejected Raja Hindustani and Dil Toh Pagal Hai out of arrogance/ego. While 'superstar' is too strong in this case, I would say Karisma benefitted majorly from the success of her 1996/1997 movies. A lot of actresses rejected Karisma's role in DTPH, so I wouldn't say anyone else would have been as equally successful as Karisma became after DTPH, but Karisma brought the X factor in terms of dance and the hard work was very much visible on screen. It also graduated Karisma from the Govinda/David Dhawan/Salman masala movies in the 90s to a more mature, 'acting' performance oriented cinema.

On the other hand, Urmila had become noticed after Rangeela and her song 'Ho Ja Rangeela Re' - sexy/sensuous were the words used to describe her. She was at another phase in her life altogether - starting out as an adult actress after working in films like Masoom (1983) as a child artist.

So, when it came to Judaai, her role was definitely a supporting role, not only because she lost Anil in the end but also because Sri was such a good actress that she outshone everyone, including Anil Kapoor. And in those times, at that phase in her career when Kaun/Daud etc hadn't come out and she hadn't stuck with RGV her whole career, it was perfectly fine for her to be a 'supporting' actress, especially to a powerhouse like Sri, who's stardom was waning at the time.

Karishma became number 1 after the successful 1997.. & stayed on top for some time. Kajol was never number 1.. as during her peak she left the industry.

98: pyar kia to darna kia, dushman, pyar to hona hi tha, kuch kuch hota hai (All super hits)

this is when Kajol was on top.

in 98 Urmila was doing satya, china gate, chota chetan and kudrat.

and Karisma had NO REALSE in 1998

Kajol was #1 during this period

then in 1999 arrived Aishwaria to dethrone Kajol who got married. This was the best year for Karisma.

In 1999, i think Karishma was at top with all superhits like Biwi No. 1, Jaanwar, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Haseena Man Jayegi. Aishwarya became number 1 AFTER 1999's blockbuster Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

is there anyone to overshadow sridevi...guys give me one name...just one name...she has been doing 2 heroine films since her 80s with jaya pradha...padmini those days n completely overshadow their performance...raveena...urmila she can overshadow anyone...she even overshadows her male co-stars n owns the film completely...

if madhuri-sridevi starred together...sridevi will easily overshadow her performance too..sridevi is known for her powerful acting...there is noone whom can overshadow her...

Judaai though urmila could not overshadow sridevi performance...but she did give a good performance as an individual performer as a supporting role...n furthermore she is a good actress though her film did not work much but she was critically acclaimed for her performance in PTKK..EHT...Deewangee...she has done performance oriented films which were lauded by the critics...she is more of critical success actress..furthermore when its sridevi...the film only talks abt her...she even overshadow anil in the film...the film is only known for sridevi till now

karishma...she did overshadow madhuri n made her presence felt n the film did wonder for her...for hatricks of hits with govinda n salman...got the legendary jodi tag with govinda

both ladies were good in their respective films but karishma benefited more n it gave a boost to her career

neither i like judaai nor DTPH...i love the songs only

most doesn't know that judaai remake of a tamil film erratai roja starring ramki...urvashi n khushboo...i don't like the story...it was a hit in tamil n hindi same to same they copy...frame to frame...scene to scene...i only loved sridevi performance in hindi n the songs...

DTPH...gosh the movie is slow n boring...i had a headache of watching it...
