Btw There was uproar when the movie was released, Hindu groups esp pointed to the fact that the lesbian SILS were named Sita and Radha... (Later they changed Sita to Nita, I think)

Another movie was released around the same time with male gay characters, not much protest for that

Shiv Sena had protested in Mumbai...they had told the theatre owners to refund tickets ...The theatres screening this film were attacked...there was major protest in Delhi and in some states...Political parties and religious groups had attacked the theatres...It was due to the theme...and it was also due to the names of the chars...Some statements were given out by the CM's of the states that the film's theme was alien to our culture...It was sent back to the CB...Petitions were filed to the SC by well known film personalities,they even led protests..These film personalities then had to face the ire of those groups for supporting the film...After few months it was re-released and again the posters,theatres were vandalized by few members of BJP...After few months again it was re-released..This film might b the only film that has re-released many times 😆 .

Hyderabad Blues was mistaken as a blue film due to it's title 😆...The Censor told Nagesh Kukunoor to change the title 😆...Poor man had to explain the censors by keeping blues in the title what he actually meant 😆...Even after doing so they were more adamant to change the title as he can't project a city as depressed city 😆...
