Kangana Ranaut whose last film Simran tanked at box office has been shooting for her next ambitious project Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Kangana who has already wrapped up Jodhpur and Hyderabad schedule will complete the shooting by the end of this month. After that, she will start working on her next project which is a whodunit. The film has been tentatively titled Mental and Kangana has zeroed in on Vicky Kaushal as leading man.
The story is a suspense thriller and hence makers are tight-lipped to keep the storyline under wraps. Makers wanted someone who can be as tough as Kangana's character and so they chose Vicky. A source told mid-day, ''Kangana plays a dark character. Vicky slips into the part of her nemesis. He instantly fell for his role when he read the script. The makers wanted someone who could give a tough fight to Kangana's character, and Vicky has showcased sufficient range to provide the same.''
The first schedule of the film will be in August and Vicky will be given 15 days to bulk up. Earlier, the movie was set to go on floors in February but both Kangana and Vicky were engaged in their ongoing projects. While Kangana still has some work left for Rani Laxmibai project, Vicky too is busy with Uri. Hence, it was decided to defer the film.
Makers also approached Bareilly Ki Barfi actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao but finally, it was Vicky who bagged the role. However, he is yet to sign the film. Vicky will next be seen in Meghna Gulzar's Raazi, opposite Alia Bhatt.
