Padmaavat has gone through and is at worst will be a HIT film with potential to go higher. The film has held very strongly on Saturday is looking at a drop in the 10-15% region and crucially Delhi and East Punjab are strong and it looks these markets will come on in a big way for a Bhansali film for the first time, Devdas did well in Delhi but that had the star power of Shahrukh Khan.
The film is looking to collect around 27 crore nett on Saturday which is excellent after the huge national holiday. This will take the three day plus paid preview total to around 80 crore nett. Goa started to play the film today and centers are in UP and Bihar are slowly growing.
Normally this film would be set for big growth on Sunday but those big Sunday growth areas of Gujarat, Rajasthan and CI are not playing the film so it remains to be seen what sort of growth comes. The film has huge ratio of business coming from metroes and mini metroes and these tend to be flat on a Sunday due to the late shows.
The director mostly makes huge films and the better ones get to the coverage mark or a little into the profit zone but this one is looking the first universal one which has worked all over. The business is obviously curtailed by the issues but there is still time to get more centres on board but the it has clearly worked in a big way across India. North and East coming on board for a Bhansali film is a huge plus but it cant compensate for Gujarat not screening the film. The film was sure to beat the records of Golmaal Again in Gujarat / Saurashtra which is the highest grossing film in this circuit.
