Even though this relates to a TV star, this issue is universal. Am really disappointed with the media. In this article, the person was questioning the stereotype why people with dark skin always to play the role of maids and DT turned this comment into a personal affront. Moreover, she made such a sexist statement "Which Indian actor will voluntarily choose to look dark on screen. It's not usual". Instead of calling her out for such a racist statement, the media chose to instead twist the issue and said that DT responded to a basher.
The main issue here is what is wrong with with dark skin? Moreover, why do people with dark skin have to play roles like maids. The bias towards people with dark skin is clearly obvious. How many of our top BW stars have dark skin? At most, they have dusky skin. Instead of celebrating diversity, we are still stuck in a regressive stage where people with dark skin are looked down upon. And the media, that is supposed to raise issues like this, remains quiet and panders to top stars.
