Sonam Kapoor is busy promoting her
upcoming movie, PadMan alongside Akshay
Kumar and Radhika Apte. The film is inspired
by Arunachalam Muruganantham, the
inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins for
women in rural areas.
During a media interaction, Sonam was
asked about her reaction when she first got
periods. To this, she replied, 'I was 15 when
I got my periods and all my friends had got
that way before me. I was very upset that I
had not got it. So when I actually got it I was
very relieved because I kept telling my
parents there is something wrong with me
as I did not get my periods. So, I was very
very happy.''
When asked what advice she wants to give
to other women on periods, she said, 'That
was a joke but it is true. I guess hot packs
help you a lot in pain, drink lots of water,
actually workout more, people think that it is
better to lie down but actually the more you
move it is better.''
Talking about the conditions of women in
rural areas when it comes to menstruation
problems, Sonam said, ''To know that only
12% of women have access to sanitary
napkins is a dismal number. We have 1.6
billion populations, out of which 50% are
women, which is a huge number. Out of
that only, 12% have access, the fact that
millions of women don't have access to
proper menstrual hygiene is scary, they use
awful products for themselves, they use ash,
they use leaves, it is a bad situation, there is
a lot of stigmas attached to it.''
Meanwhile, a while back, Sonam had said
that Akshay is the best choice to play
PadMan. She had tweeted, "Such a pleasure
working with the indomitable Akshay
Kumar. He was the perfect person to play
the role of Padman and has brought a sense
of humour and love to the film."

Someone was happy!! I was 10/11!! Ya verrryy early. None of my friends had it. Mine was painful & not fun. Hated it. It changed me. I still hate it. Now it takes away 2 weeks of my life in a month with both pms & the period itself!

Lol I was late too, like the latest of all my friends. Luckily I was a happy camper to not have the hassle for that long :P

In any case it's nice even for the purpose of the movie these such simple things that most think r taboo can be spoken of like this

Aww I feel really bad for you cz right now my 12 yr old little cousin is facing same issue n she is bleeding so much and for so long she is being medicated to cope as she had to be sent home from school couple of times as she couldn't take the pain
Try talking to a doctor if you haven't cz sometimes BC pills etc makes the cycle more bearable 🤗

Same thing happened to me, I was freaking out😆 My mom took me to a doctor where she assured me that it is completely normal to have periods at later age. It's good to see people are having conversation unabashedly. Hope this movie atleast reach to rural areas where this subject is still a big taboo. Yesterday I read in news how a woman died in Nepal when she was forced to exile because she had her periods.

I hate my periods, wish I was as lucky as her!

In the beginning I think most of us had 15/ 20 days long bleeding, it used to suck, thank fully I was in a girls school and I could talk about it. I have no idea how people in a coed school cope up with the onset of periods

Had mine at 10/11 too while cousin had hers in 12th
I was dying and had to eat meds to cope with the cramp and excessive bleeding.
The pains died down but almost 10 days in a month it consumes me.
