I made a similar comment on 2 separate occasions (at least that I can remember). I repost them below.

Satrupa had to make a tough decision to give away a child and while she was very obviously selfish in keeping the male child and giving away the female, somewhere it also had to do with the family, especially Vikramaditya. If a man can disown his own son because he has an illegitimate son that is effeminate, then he obviously won't give everything to a female grandchild. The only reason Satrupa ever had any power over the royal steels was because Vikramaditya considered her his son, not his daughter-in-law.

I do like your theory that Vikramaditya killed the first twins, but weren't they sons? If they were daughters it explains a lot and it also holds up Adhiraj's comment that nothing is as it seems in Lal Mahal. Even a seemingly straightforward, no-nonsense, business-minded grandfather is not as he seems. He doesn't just get to the position he's in without a few sacrifices along the way.

Based on the promos and what the maid said in the first episode it seems like Satrupa doesn't even know that she had twins. I think she just thought she had one. Or maybe she does know.

Whatever it is, Anami is a girl and it seems that if she had lived then she might have been the older child and thus the waaris, which obviously can't be because she's a girl. So if she had stayed in the house, she would have been killed or shunned or something along those lines so that the boy could be the waaris. Now either Satrupa gave Anami away or the maid decided herself to give Anami away in a bid to save her life.

This scene also revealed why Satrupa gave up Anami. I didn't even have to wait until the Guruji scene. Satrupa wants money, power, and position. And in our Indian society, only a son can get you that unfortunately. So when Satrupa had twins, she did what she had been taught and knew to be true. She gave up the daughter in return for her son. Note I say the daughter. For Satrupa Anami isn't really her daughter, but more a step to get what she wants.
