Awesome post, DD!
I don't think ... and I HOPE NOT ... that Vikram had anything to do with the death of his granddaughters. But yes ... the fact that Anami is a girl is definitely coloring his vision and judgement about accepting her as his grandchild and heir. he prefers the idiot Avdhoot to the admittedly uncultured Anami ... uncultured as in how different she is from the sophisticated regal Singh khandaan.Baldev ... I think it's more to do with the fact that he was kept in the dark by Satrupa ... a wife with whom he has anyway a number of marital issues. This is another one ... and a huge one ... being kept in the dark about the existence of his own child for so many years. It's a pity Tom Alter is so ill, so we cannot find out how big a role Guruji had to play in Satrupa giving away Anami, and keeping the rest of the family in the dark about it.My biggest issue is why did Satrupa give Anami away? Was it because she was the girl, and Satrupa wanted to keep the boy with her? Did it cement her own positin in the family? Many times women are mistreated if they have only daughters, and their position changes if they have sons. If that was the case, then Satrupa was being hypocritical in talking about Vikram accepting a girl as heir, if she herself kept her son over her daughter.I hope we get a clarification for Satrupa's reasons at some point in the story ... that part fascinates e ... also because Satrupa herself is such a strong woman, and has apparently been taking care of the business for so many years. Also, if her position was cemented in the family after Baldev was disinherited, did she never think of getting her daughter back?
Oh did not hear that bit about two boys being her first-borns. So that bit is ruled out then.Could be that too...since she was threatened by Narottam's presence. Kind of using Vatsalya as her definite ticket to the thrown. She groomed him well too. But I also think she feared for Anami. There has to be a strong reason to give her up.Also Im not quite sure but the Guruji did tell her to give up her first-born that is Vatsalya, out of the twins. 'Then is he too part of the big conspiracy. Most likely.
Tom Alter is ill ? Oh did not know that. Explains Guruji's absence.
Not very sure about GUruji's hand in the whole mess. I assume he knew the life of the first born is in danger. And so wanted the first born to be sent away. Now he might have known that the first born is a boy and second a girl. ANd he knew Satrupa did not listen to him. He must have known that the girl has a very long life and nobody can touch her. And wanted the girl to be in Lal Mahal. If only Satrupa has followed his advice she might have had both the children now. Though she may have lost out on Royal Steel.
Having said that - this is RKC. Guruji's character also will be revealed in due time 😉
Vikram is not only particular about a boy as heir. He also wants that boy to be of royal blood. Hence the rejection of Narottam. And almost acceptance of Avdhoot - though he is not a direct heir.
