right arm to work with Salman Khan in
their Bollywood debut, Ileana D'Cruz
turned down the offer to star opposite
Bollywood's Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Though
Ileana was a popular name down South
and had many hits in her kitty, she
refused to star in 2009 film Wanted.
It is no secret that Ileana was the female
lead in the original Telugu film Pokiri. And
the makers of Wanted to cast her in the
Hindi version but she turned it down.
In an interview to PTI, Ileana revealed, "I
was offered a film of my own which was
Wanted with Salman Khan. I was actually
going to do it. I was happy that my first
film would be with Salman."
So what made her turn down the offer? "I
remember I had exams on back then. So
when Boney (Kapoor) sir asked me to do
the photoshoot, I was like I am sorry, I
have exams on. I can't. I didn't think I
handled it well back then because I didn't
understand the gravity of the offer. For
me, it was all about finishing my exams."
Ileana's loss turned out to be Ayesha
Takia's gain, and as they say, the rest is
history.
It took Ileana another three years to make
her Bollywood debut. But this time she
was paired opposite Ranbir Kapoor in
Anurag Basu's Barfi! Ileana revealed that
she took a lot of time to give her nod to
the project. In fact, at one point, she
wanted to back out from the project.
"I was actually going to back out of Barfi!
as well, because I wasn't sure. I took
three months to sign it. There was
something about the story. I don't know
if I will ever get to do a story like this. I
decided on a whim to do it," added
Ileana.
