Basu chatterjee/s movies

Baton Baton mein,Khata meetha,Swami,chitchor,Rajni ghandha,saukeen,Choti si baat...will say 30+ classic movies directed by him

2..Shyam Benegal 's few movies

Bhumika,Nishan,Ankur,Manthan,Junoon,Kulyug,Mandi Trikal,Zubeida...

I think last one was well done Abba

3-H Mukherjee ...

Anand,Abhiman Anupama,,Guddi,Golmal,,chupke chupke,khubsurat,mili,bawarchi,Gaban...

It is very difficult to choose one person

Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

A total stress-buster director. 🥳 Starting from Chupke Chupke (My MOST fav) to Golmaal to Bawarchi to Mili to Abhimaan to Anand to even Jhooth Bole Kawa Kaate. Never ever gets old.

@ Amrita - Thanks for the reference for people who don't know em. Even the ones of these directors which are not highlighted here are GREAT watch like Naram Garam, Namak Haraam. That shows where today's directors stand with limited worth mentioning movies. 😒

Can't bring myself to finish most Shyam Benegal movies, subject matter is always too bleak for my liking, and Shabana who features in most his films puts me off, never thought she was the bees' knees, hope I don't face the wrath of film connoisseurs for this.

Loved Zubeidaa however, who would have thought he could have extracted that from Karishma.

I agree, she's not even half of that 😊

You can watch his movies with Smitha Patil or his latest works like "Welcome to Sajjanpur" with Amrita Rao ( No Shabana),

"Well down Abba" was enjoyable too (again No Shabana) although not upto the mark... It's more upbeat than his other movies

Although I don't think his movies are that bleak compared to other arthouse movies of Indian Cinema

That's what I like about his movies... His "Suraj Ka Satwan Ghoda" is a masterpiece (and No Shabana 😆)
