Why can't Indian horror movies be as terrifying as Hollywood ones?
As time passed, the quality of bollywood horror fell below freezing point it seems. Since the Bhatts almost established a monopoly on so called horror (actually comedy) movies, we horror lovers wait like a wolf for The Conjurings or Anabelles or something else from overseas. If Bollywood can really make good movies in many fronts, WHY NOT HORROR? Is it that difficult?

What's your opinion?

When you think of horror movies in Bollywood, you immediately think of B-grade movies with a mansion, bhoot with garish make up, creaking doors, some witch cackling away in a white sari. It just makes us laugh.
I did find RGV's Bhoot scary in places. But cannot think of any other really scary movie.

Sometimes the thriller or crime movies are more horrifying than any Annebella creation or whatsoever. I remember I lost my sleep for new nights in childhood and needed an escort to washroom door after watching Kaun. Dushman, NH10 gave me sleepless nights and nightmares afterwards too.

😒 I dont think I need horror movies at all, some crimes are enough for me. 🤔 #WeakHearted.

Annebelle Creation, saw yesterday.
It was full of jump scares only.
Nothing great. Although story and acting was good, but it was nothing extraordinarily scary.

I can watch horror movies at 3 in the night and not be scared but crime patrol can scares the living shit out of me even at 3 in the afternoon. Our reality is scarier than american horror movies I guess thats why.

Because they end up showing the unseen, walking in saree etc. Horror movies are good until you keep the suspense intact, keep reminding of the ghostly presence but not really unravelling it. I loved conjuring but absolutely hated the sequel for the very reason although it did give me a scare in cinema thanks to loud speakers but hated it after a second watch.

Well, there are some good horror movies though in BW. Phobia and B13.

Kaun was scary as shit 😆
For me scary is conditional, for most hindi horror movies, I can watch with my dad or friends and suddenly they're enjoyable, scary and funny, all at the same time! If I watch alone even if it's funny when it's with a company, I get scared alone.

Some movies though are really scary with or without a company, ones that look probable and realistic like Sixth Sense, The Visit, Village (sorry, an N Shayamalan fan here ), Psycho, and some other movies I cannot recall for now but you get the essence na.

And ya I'm yet to watch good horror movie in BW ..the realistic type of horror that is not funny or enjoyable in any way but pure scary and intriguing.

Phobia isn't typically a horror movie but definitely a movie of a class! I totally liked it. But unfortunately bollywood produces very less of such movies and even such movies aren't much recognised. I have watched the conjuring 2 and Anabelle Creations. Couldn't still watch Anabelle and the conjuring. Will soon do. Anabelle creations definitely scared me a hell lot more than the conjuring 2.

Yeah it's basically a psychological thriller but somewhat falls into the horror genre too. I got goosebumps while watching the movie.
Conjuring is worth-watching. The exorcism part is a bit scary. Anabelle is not so.
