^ A fair question to ask producers who depend on distributors. Flop actors have to discount their prices once they flop. If they are lucky they have received signing amount and contracts. Too much haggling and few more flops, they are out of luck.
Payment is not just about hard work but whose name distributor thinks will sell in their region. It is who the audience trusts more in which territory. Check the map of territories that Bollywood caters to and you will have your answer why men are preferred. Not my reasoning. Answer given by one of the distributor...😊
