Ok so in 90s Bollywood actresses used to wear western clothes but overall 90s youth never followed extreme westernization ! Zada se zada they used to wear bulky jeans and all( I'm talking about middle class youth)
But nowadays wearing shorts n skirts in metro cities is quite common but it's spreading in small town too.I was in Lucknow n saw girls in shorts n skirts .( Again middle class )
Then Kanpur is much more advance
Sarojni nagar n Mumbai fashion street kinda market are in every city I guess.Where you can buy short skirts in 150 n off shoulder top in 100 only!
So I'm trying to say to say is don't you think with such speed in coming 10-15 years we will not see salwar suit wearing women

Is Bollywood too much focus on westernization ruining today youth?I'm saying ruining because they think ki salwar suit pehenge wali ladkiya are behanjee types

Thanks to Bollywood our govt legalised live in relationship n now in coming years gay marriage will b legal too ...

I am actually glad to hear that is a thing even in small cities. More they get used to seeing women in western clothes, more they are immune to it. And hopefully, public eve teasing, groping etc. will be a thing of the past in South Asian cities.

...but I think BW does show women wearing salwars.. Kareena did in Bajrangi Baijan, Bodyguard... Alia in that 2 States, BKD.. Anushka did wear kurtas in ADHM... and so on.

..in recent times BW is reflecting on the dressing style of India quite well.. we all wear stuff from shorts to Salwars/lehengas.. I actually love the broad spectrum of clothes we Indian women can wear :D :D

You mean the same way Salwar Kameez became ubiquitous all over India partly thanks to Bollywood and took over sarees and skirt and blouse for women?

hey, clothing should be a choice.. culture is never static, it's always evolving, IMO :)

I agree. I didn't say anything against Salwar Kameez, in fact I agree with you that the variety is nice. Especially in the past few years when fashion brought back Indian skirt and blouse outfits.

I am responding to the main topic, which talks about how Bollywood is responsible for all bad things. XD

By the way, Hindi film industry during the late 90s and early 2000s I think went more towards Salwar Kameez compared to other eras where we saw heroines in skirts, pants etc.

I am glad to hear that. I am American desi and the length of my clothes does not define my character or respect towards elders or my sanskariness or lack thereof. My parents brought me up that way. My cousins in Chennai and Banglore live the same way. Their clothes don't define their character. I am assuming so too for the girls of small town India in the cities you mentioned. And if gay marriage is legalized in India I am very glad.

Off Topic: From your userid I see you watch that serial where people wear those ridiculous blouses and have sari drapes that I am assuming few people will relate to. I certainly don't and I was asked to look there for inspiration for a wedding as I had to wear a sari. Horrible. It makes saris look incredibly difficult to wear. Perhaps you can write to the designer of that show and ask them to show reality. That way more girls would want to wear it instead of shudder at how incredibly difficult it seems to be for RL.I took my inspiration from BW. I would start with serials first from what little I have seen. Ridiculous clothes like costumes.

ayyooo, KK! my post wasn't directed at you :( ..sorry..

90s mein... hmm, my exposure to 90s cinema was more narrow, so... 😛 I guess, back then also they wore some western clothing - ones which people in RL couldn't have worn (except the high waist jeans + baggy shirt and perhaps the stockings + mini skirt, maxis etc).. but maybe not to the extent they do now.

Now maybe we can say that clothing in cinema is almost the same as real world.. if not influencing each other:)
