Katrina Kaif has bought a home in Bandra, on Waterfield Road, and plans to move into it by December.

The 3BHK apartment is on the sixth floor of the building and includes a terrace. Did we mention the place is less than five minutes away from boyfriend Salman Khan's house?

The actress buying a new place in the city sends out a clear professional message — that she is serious about her career, and is no risk of her moving back to London.

It also points to the fact that there are no wedding bells in the offing. "I wanted a bigger place," explains the actress. "Also, this is my own house — the earlier one, on St Paul's Road, was rented property (she is still staying there)."

What did she like best about her new home? "It's special because it's open and has many big windows. It is very spacious. I liked the open feel of the flat, as I feel claustrophobic in congested areas."

Professional help

The actress has engaged Soni Tanna, of the Interdec interior design company, to do up the place, keeping her tastes in mind. The actress plans to be actively involved and give a lot of personal inputs.

Touch wood

Says Kat about Soni, "Lali (David Dhawan's wife) recommended Soni to me; she is a very efficient lady. I wanted something simple, clean and neutral. I don't like bright and gaudy colours. I want rustic shades and a wooden feel to my home. I showed Soni some references from magazines and am helping her design and do up the place. It's being done on clean lines as I don't like ostentatiousness or grandiose elements in my home."

Kat's secret

Kat requests us not to reveal the name of her building. "I don't want people to invade my privacy," she says.

"Hopefully, the designing and decoration will be over by December and I will be able to move in. I am very excited to be staying in my own flat," she smiles
