its not fair to say that any khan rule the 90s salman n srk was very close tho in terms of success i guess amir was behind
ofcourse srk was there for late 90's part

Stardom is measured with no. of ppl come to see that star's Film...

No. of ppl means TICKET Sold = Footfalls

Check out Khans footfalls from 90's & you will see why they are dominating in this 3rd decade of their career...

Salman

1. MPK = 4.90 Cr
2. Baaghi = 1.25 Cr
3. Saajan = 2.50 Cr
4. Sanam Bewafa = 2 Cr

Srk

1. Deewana = 1.50 Cr
2. Baazigar = 1.75 Cr
3. Darr = 1.99 Cr

These are the few initial BIG HIts from Salman & Shah Rukh... These films made the base for them, a ground work which made them today's biggest stars.

I am looking forward to who will replace Khans 😆

Salman and SRK definitely had a bigger pull for a long time and Amir imho became a brand just after Lagaan but even that didn't help much till Ghajini/3I happened.
In terms of replacement like someone said they ruled but not as a trio because Sunny and lot were still there. Don't know much about Sunny Govinda era but in the present scenario they clearly don't seem to have Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna or ABsr kind of stardom which the Khans have.

Though Khans appeared in late 80s/early 90s, they were not called super stars to begin with. When they started, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol were bigger stars (though not super stars). Amongst the three, Sanjay Dutt had command. But throughout his career, he never maintained descipline. Either drug, or girls or underworld. There were always distraction. Despite that, he was at peak during Khal Nayak. If he had maintained disciplined/punctual life like AB, he would have been next AB. But he spoilt it with his own hands.
Khans overtook their seniors in late 90s. But the label superstar started only after 2000. (Before, I don't think they were referred like that).

Lagaan was a hit, but not as big as Gaddar which was released on the same day. Afterwards, Amir took years to make Mangal Pandey, which was a flop. So Amir's success started after Ghajini/3 Idiots. Similarly, Salman's superstardom started after Wanted/Dabungg.

Mangal Panday had broken the opening day record...it's opening was almost twice of the rest of the movies released in that year...the following year Fanna had the highest opening day record...
