Here in the show it's shown that Mehtab's father is responsible of the feud because he is blinded by Ghulam Mohammad. So it's not really following the real story ?

Sardarni Sada Kaur, mother-in-law of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, is one of the builders of the Sikh Raj. She was born to Sardar Dasaunda Singh of Ferozepur District and was married to Sardar Gurbakhsh Singh, son of Sardar Jai Singh, jathedar (Head) of the Ghanya Misl. A misl was like a kingdom for each of the Sikh sardars. They collected revenue from their Misl areas.

Sardar Jai Singh(Mehtab's grandfather) was a friend of Sardar Charhat Singh(father of Maha Singh), the Jathedar of the Sukarchakia Misl. The areas of the two Misls were adjacent to each other. Unfortunately, Sardar Charhat Singh died early leaving his young son, Maha Singh(Ranjit's father), an orphan. Sardar Jai Singh(Mehtab's grandfather )extended his sympathy to the bereaved family and raised Mahan Singh with love and affection.

When Mahan Singh became an adult, he wanted to use his powers to increase his revenues. He collected money from the nearby Jammu area, which was under the protection of Sardar Jai Singh(Mehtab's grandfather). Naturally, he got angry at the young boy, Mahan Singh, for his unfaithful act. He ordered him to pay a heavy fine or be ready to be attacked and turned out of his Misl area.

Mahan Singh understood the blunder he made for the lust of wealth. He went to Jai Singh to feel sorry and negotiate the fine to be paid by him. Sardar Jai Singh, being very mad, did not agree to relax his condition of collecting heavy fines from Mahan Singh. The reconciliation efforts having failed, he had no alternative but to face the mighty Sardar Jai Singh. To be able to come up to the level of giving a good fight to Jai Singh, the young sardar decided to get as many people on his side as possible. All the opponents and Sikh chiefs jealous of Jai Singh got on the side of Mahan Singh. A big battle was fought between the two brave Sikh armies, each proud of his men and their expertise in fighting skills. Gurbaksh Singh(Mehtab's father), son of Jai Singh was fighting on one front independent of his father. He was murdered in the fight, leaving young Sardarni Sada Kaur a widow and his father without support. Jai Singh could not bear the loss of his only son in the battle and immediately gave up the fight. He threw away his arms and raising his hands cried aloud to his opponent to murder him. While weeping he said he did not want to live without his son, his only hope in the world. The fighting stopped right away leaving Jai Singh a mental wreck and incapable of managing his Misl.

Sardarni Sada Kaur did not lose her heart even under these trying and adverse situations. She decided to face all these problems bravely and tactfully. She reconciled with her main opponent Mahan Singh. She offered the hand of her daughter Mehtab Kaur to Ranjit Singh, the son of Mahan Singh. The engagement of the two children cemented the friendship of their parents and removed all the grains of mutual enmity and misgivings. The combination of the two big Misls, Sukarchakia(Ranjit's kingdom) and Ghanya( Kanehya Mehtab's Kingdom)created a force to be counted as number one in the Punjab state. It is said misfortunes never come alone. Another great tragedy struck Sada Kaur. Sardar Mahan Singh died three years after the engagement of his son Ranjit Singh and left him an orphan at the age of nine. To face this new unfortunate situation, Sardarni Sada Kaur had to perform the marriage ceremony for her daughter when she was just a child. The marriage entitled her to conduct and manage the affairs of the Shakarchakia Misl as well. She handled her job so wisely and bravely that she was able to achieve the long cherished goal of the Sikhs of becoming the rulers of Punjab. She performed this great task within 9 years after taking over the charge of the two Misls.

She used both tact and power to unite all the major Misls to take over the rule of Punjab. Some Sikh chiefs willingly joined her because of her good negotiating power. Others, she physically took over with the help of her strong army and annexed their Misls. She gave them (Sikh chiefs defeated by her) appropriate positions in the enlarged kingdom to keep them on her side rather than letting them nurse any ill-will against her as her opponents.

Whenever an opponent tried to weaken her or any invader tried to loot her territory, she defeated them to silence them forever. In this way, one success after the other led her to make her son-in-law, Ranjit Singh, become the ruler of Lahore before the turn of the century. The Sikh Raj was thus established in 1799 in Punjab. She guided, advised, and helped him to take over not only the whole of Punjab lying to the west of the Satlej River, but also to become the ruler of the regions adjacent to the Punjab. Ranjit Singh thus became a great, powerful Maharaja of Punjab. He defeated the Pathans and Mughals, and subdued these great fighters who had been coming from the west, invading and looting Punjab for almost a century.

Sardarni Sada Kaur thus carved out a place for herself in the history of northwestern India as one of the builders of the Sikh State. And Sikh women were good statesmen and great soldiers. They organized armies, won battles, and ruled the state well.

Mehtab could never forgive the fact that Ranjit's father killed her father. Her grandfather Jai Singh had raised Ranjit's father like his own when Maha Singh became orphan. All this made Mehtab stay away from him.She stayed in her Mother's place. But she kept visiting her husband's place also. Just visiting as she was the first queen and held the position of Maharani. This position was not given to any other queen till she was alive.she was superior than other queens. but she died at very young age of 30.. After her death also this position of Maharani was not given to the 2nd queen..it was infact given to the last queen who was warrior queen her name was Jind Kaur..

No they are distorting the facts. Maybe they wanna show Ranjit Singh and his family in postivite light. But that doesn't mean they show sardarni Queen sada Kaur in negative light. As she was the one who pushed Ranjit forward and helped him in expansion of his kingdom. Also made him king of Lahore. She helped him with her army of 25000 troops and also participated in the war of lahore.she was Brave warrior sikh queen.

Sada Kaur was born in 1762. From her early childhood she showed clear signs of being endowed with her warlike forefathers' spirit and leadership qualities. She mastered the soldierly art of horse riding and wielding weapons of war. Sada Kaur married Gurbaksh Singh Kanhaiya, the only son of the powerful Misaldar Jai Singh Kanhaiya.

Charat Singh's son, Maha Singh, succeeded in raising his misal to an important confederacy. This aroused the envy of the most powerful misal, the Kanhaiyas. The two came into conflict over the control of Jammu, and in one of the many battles that took place between them, Gurbaksh Singh was killed. Jai Singh's pride was humbled and he agreed to the betrothal of his deceased son's only child, Mehtab Kaur, to Mahan Singh's five-year-old son, Ranjit Singh. Jai Singh died shortly afterwards, leaving the Kanhaiya misal to his widowed daughter-in-law, Sada Kaur, the mother of Mehtab Kaur. Maha Singh Sukarchakia died in 1792. The legacy, which Ranjit Singh inherited from his father, consisted of a large district in the heart of the Panjab. Ranjit Singh married Mehtab Kaur in 1796, when he was 5 and lost his father at the age of 10. Sada kaur martial prowess and statesmanship was the stepping stone for Ranjit Singh to become the Maharaja of Punjab.
Sada Kaur played an important role in uniting the Khalsa forces under the com-mand of Ranjit Singh to drive out the Afghan invader, Shah Zaman, from the Panjab. She also became a close advisor of Ranjit Singh and guided him in becom-ing the Maharaja of Panjab.
When Ranjit Singh received an invitation from the important citizens of Lahore to fin-ish Bhangi's misrule and take over their city, he sought Sada Kaur's advice. She told Ranjit Singh that whosoever controls the capital of the state will soon become the master of the Panjab. She, however, ad-vised him to tell his soldiers and command-ers not to plunder or inflict suffering on the innocent citizens. They should be told that they were going to Lahore not as con-querors but as friends and deliverers. On June 26,1799, with an army of 25,000 se-lect soldiers, Ranjit Singh marched towards Lahore and reached there in the evening. By sunrise, Ranjit Singh's forces were ready for attack. Special troops entered through the breaches made in the walls. They asked the citizens of Lahore to open the gates for Ranjit Singh's troops to enter. Ranjit Singh entered the city through Lahori Gate and Sada Kaur led her horsemen through Delhi Gate. Lahore was taken with little blood-shed or loss of life.
For providing effective guidance and support to Ranjit Singh in his early conquests, Sada Kaur has been rightly called 'the ladder by which Ranjit Singh climbed to his glories as Maharaja of the Panjab'.

From the info I read on some blogs and after watching few episodes of DD serial Maharaja Ranjit Singh it seems like the creatives of this show have ruined Sada Kaur's character..Her characterization in this show appears far from what I read and saw

Though the reason for the war between Maha Singh and Gurubaksh was shown differently there,Sada Kaur's character is somewhat like how Ashi_ described.

Few highlights from DD serial Maharaja Ranjit Singh made by RajBabbar.(I've seen only until Ranjit's marriage)

Maha Singh and Gurubaksh aren't shown as close friends. They just know each other as Jai Singh,Charak Singh, father of Maha Singh, few other sardars are friends who fought together in the battles against Nadir Shah and others Afghans

A dispute arises between Gurubaksh and another sardar Ramgadiya over some land.Gurubaksh is shown as impulsive and angry young man while Sada Kaur is smart and composed.Knowing from Ramgadiya that Gurubaksh is wrongly claiming the land Maha Singh goes to Kanhaiyyas to sort out the matter but Gurubaksh's attitude and Jai singh's support for his son worsens the matter. They decide to sort out the dispute in Sarbat Khalsa but headmen declare it as personal matter which needs to be sorted outside Sarbat khalsa.Gurubaksh declares war on Maha Singh.Sada Kaur who seems to be active observant of court matters advises Gurubaksh to compromise with Mahasingh as the latter has the support of more sardars but Gurubaksh ignores her.In this war Maha Singh accidentally kills Gurubaksh.

To save Kanhaiyya riyasat from the neigbouring sardars and to secure Mehtab's life,Sada Kaur reconciles with Maha Singh and takes Mehtab's proposal for Ranjit Singh inspite of his disability as Maha Singh is strong and if Kanhaiyyas are associated with Sukherchakiyas no one will dare to eye on their riyasat. Its a pure political alliance and both Ranjit and Mehtab were 5yrs old then.

Sada Kaur takes the responsibility of training Ranjit as he doesnt just belong to Kanhaiyyas or Sukherchakiyas but the future of Punjab. She takes Ranjit Singh with her, boosts his confidence to ignore his physical disability and concentrate on training. She trains him in war tactics making him into a brave young warrior.

Knowing about Maha Singh's deteriorating health Ghulam Mohammed wages war against him but Ranjit comes as a surprise to them.He kills Hashmat khan.Maha Singh who's injured dies after doing Ranjit's tilak and telling him about his grandfather's wish to see Khalsa fauj and Khyber pass closed.

Sada Kaur convinces a reluctant Mehtab to forget about the bitter past and marry Ranjit Singh.

Gulab Singh was just mentioned as a brother/cousin of Ranjit Singh, his character wasnt shown in detail

Whatever few episodes I watched they have shown Sada Kaur as an intelligent and strategic woman who keeps the interests of Punjab and her/their riyasats above her/their personal issues. She has been the driving force behind Ranjit Singh before as well as after Maha Singh.

Hey I'm new to this forum. I've literally just finished a marathon of this show from the very beginning. I do not know the actual story of Maharaja Ranjit Singh but after watching the show I've read online some pieces. And, as usual, the makers of the show seem to have distorted quite a bit- Sada Kaur in particular.
