Chapter 2:
"Nahi, Omkaaraji.. aap nashe mein hain.. yeh teek nahi hain.." Gauri tried to make him realize the situation.
Till then, Omkaara's frustration was heading its peak. "Kya sahi nahi hain.!!. tum to aise baat kar rahi ho.. jaise tum sirf sahi kaam karthi ho.. Kaali se paise lekar, khud ko bhej diya, tum hi ne toh kaha tha.. yaad hai.. Kaali ki haveli mein takurein banke ghoom rahi thi, aur jab pakade gayi thi, bata rahi thi, kaali ne bua maa ko hostage rakh kar majboor kiya hai tumne.. Aur ab to aise react kar rahi ho, jaise tumse badkar koi aur pavitra ladki hai hi nahi. Khatam karo aisi naatak.. Kaali ki haveli mein dekh chukka hoon tumhaari tamasha.. Besharmon ki tharah saari mardon ke saamne naach rahi thi, uski saath has haske baat kar rahi thi, aur wapas uske saath hi chali gayi paisa lekar.. Phir pata nahi kya hua, us pe hi insaam laga rahi thi.. Itna kuch hone ki baad bhi, mere choone se pativrata ki naatak kyun karti ho..? Phir koi chaal se mujhe phasana ki iraada hai tumhe? Kya yeh contract marriage ko permanent banaana ki plan to nahi kar rahi ho? He spewed words of disgust and poison.. Little did he realize that every word that he is uttering is going to haunt him day by day, later.
He spoke in unrelenting hatred. Hatred which rose from his disappointment that she is a characterless girl (he didn't have any proof to believe otherwise), disappointment that he had married her knowing this, disappointment in getting attracted to her and losing himself in the intensity of the dove shaped eyes of hers, despite knowing all this.
Gauri on the other hand was standing in a horrified silence. She was too broken down to even react to these words. Ultimately nothing mattered to him. He didn't even think about anything she did to him as Chulbul. Despite marrying her infront of all, he still thinks she is a characterless woman and is behind his money. He has witnessed how kaali taakur is, still he thinks that she is a characterless woman who tried to stick with kaali. There is no use of explaining any of this anymore, perhaps.. She thought. Something inside her died a slow death. She wasn't knowing whether it was a adulation for him or her devotion.
She closed her eyes not able to bear the pain of her broken heart. The very foundation of her viswaas has been shaken up. Tears rolled down her cheeks, but she decided not to depict anything infront of him as he would again think she is acting. She stared at him like a lifeless soul. Something about the look moved him.. He could not sense the reason behind such a look. She moved silently and went on to the couch. She wasn't even crying as she was shocked beyond reason to even cry to hear him utter these words again. She knew this is over. Waise bhi, only 4 more days are left for this futureless marriage. She has to go away for good of all.. for the good of her self respect. For the good of upbringing her mother has given her, for the good of her own viswaas on Sankar ji.
He was watching her move away silently without even replying a word. He was starting to feel guilty whether he crossed his limits in his words seeing her reaction. She went and silently lied down in couch. Little did he know that what was running in her mind. He went and lied down silently. He turned towards her for a couple of times driven by guilt from his words of hatred. But Gauri was facing the other side and lying down. She wasn't crying but she wasn't even sleeping.
In the morning..
When Omkaara woke up it was little late and the room was empty. He freshened up and had his breakfast then also Gauri wasn't to be found. She might have felt angry to face him after all that he spoke last night. That's why may be she is avoiding he thought. He is not a person who will insult anyone with a blind rage. He himself didn't know why he behaved like that to her yesterday. Whatever it is, she helped him get out biggest issue of his life, so he needs to say sorry. He searched for her in the room, washroom, living hall.. she was no where to be found.. He was tired of searching for her.. Perhaps his mother might know. He went to meet Jhanvi.. He enquired to her, she didn't have a clue. Omkaara's mind alarm was ringing. Did she take any extreme step after their conversation last night.? He was now in panicky mode. He went and enquired the security personnel. Security personnel had changed shifts by 7 hence none of them had seen her after 7. He checked the cctv footage. It had a footage where Gauri was seen leaving with a packed bag by 5.30 in the morning. He tried calling her, her phone was out of reach. She must have gone to Bareilly, since her mother is there.. he thought. He was not sure whether or not he should go to Bareilly. She must have gotten angry about his behavior last night and might have just gone to Bareilly to take a break. May be he should give her sometime and then go and apologize, he thought. She has switched her phone off too, only because she is angry. But how can he confirm that she has indeed reached Bareilly? He dialed a person who was incharge of her mother's health. She told him, Gauri has reached Bareilly this afternoon, and she took her mother out and they both didn't return yet. It was already evening. Omkaara's instincts said something was terribly wrong. He dialed the caretaker person again in the night, she still said they both were yet to reach.
Omkaara could not remain peaceful in his room. He checked the room for her belongings. She had not cleared all of her wardrobe and there were still something left. He opened the locker which he has taught her to operate. All the jewels were lying as it is, but there was a small purple pouch and a note inside. He opened the pouch. Inside the pouch was the mangalsutra which he had given to her, his wife. Omkaara was shocked. He took out the note "aap ki mangalsutra aap ke paas lauta rahi hoon... Gauri". Omkaara's mind stopped thinking for a brief second.
Has she..? Really..? Has she really gone out of his life??
He searched inside for anymore notes that she probably would have left. Inside was a credit card that he gave her and some cash. There was a note on top.. "60 din ki naukri ki paisa aap ne jo bank account pe deposit ki thi, uski aalava kuch nahi le rahi hoon.. Meri naukri poori ho gayi.. Gauri.."
Omkaara was not able to gather the thought. He was the one who initiated this deal of contract marriage to escape Svetlana. He had transferred entire money for her mother's treatment in surplus, even before she asked. Now that the contract days are over, why should he feel so terrible that she left? Isn't he the one who initiated all of this..? He sat down with an overwhelming guilt about what happened last night.. He ditched out all the crap on her last night. He wasn't knowing what controlled his senses last night. He was the one attracted to her and he verbally abused her with all the frustration when she was hesitating. How cheap of him to behave like this.. ? She may or may not be a characterless person, that's her choice, doesn't mean he has to treat her this way when they have mutually agreed for the contract. This is not who Omkaara singh Oberoi is.. He was wondering what the hell was wrong with him? No matter what happened, he has to apologize to her. Last night was a mistake fully from his side. He has to find her and say sorry, Period.
