"Main usse propose karne jaa raha hoon Neil, main... Avni ko propose karne jaa raha hoon"
Neil was expecting to hear those words sooner or later, hopefully later. He replied half-heartedly with a "Sach? That's great Ali, All the best!" They both turned to see Avni walk into the cafe and greet Nanno. "Woh aa gayi, acha main chalta hoon!" Ali walked away whilst Neil just stood there. He wondered why he was feeling this way, Ali was his friend, he himself had a lovely fiance in Riya, why was he feeling so worried? His heart was beating quickly, and he felt teary at the thought of him no longer being Avni's protector. Let's be honest, he was never meant to be her protector, but it sort of happened. Why did she affect him so much? All these questions haunted Neil as he sat down and drank a cup of tea whilst watching the waiter take the 'Ali-Avni Poha' to the table where the twosome were sitting.
"Ali, yeh ring kya hai?" Neil heard. Ali stood up and started walking towards Avni, "Avni, tum bachpan se mere dost rahi ho, aur main tumse bachpan se pyaar karta aaya hoon, toh main... bas tumhe poochna chahta tha" With a deep breath he got down on one knee and slowly said "Will you marry me?" Neil prayed with every ounce of his body that Avni refused, said "she only thinks of him as a friend." But why would she say that? Ali has been with her through it all. Avni replied, "Tumne hamesha mera saath diva, main na kaise bol sakti hoon tumhe?" Ali couldn't express his excitement, he leapt and lifted Avni into an embrace, Neil felt his fist tighten, and then return back to normal. Ali rushed to Nanno and told her the good news whilst holding onto Avni's hand. Neil felt it was appropriate for him to go, he felt suffocated seeing all of this.
"Arre Neil, tum kahan jaa rahe ho" Ali yelled whilst Neil started to walk away from his table, Neil tried to explain "Main bas..." , "Abhi meri sagai huwi hai, aur tu saale congratulate karne bina chale jaaoge?" Ali asked. "Oh haan, congrats Ali" he said as he pulled Ali into a hug, he then looked at Avni and replied with a "Congrats to you too Mrs Ali" He said supported with fake laughter to make it seem as if this was all in good humour. She was going in for a hug, but he quickly offered his hand for a handshake. Neil noticed the ring and the memories came flooding back of the jewellery shop and him making Avni wear it. The moment he took her hand and slid the ring on which made it look like it was made for her. It complimented her beautiful skin-tone and looked perfect against the yellow blouse she was wearing. "Nice ring choice Ali" Neil quickly said as he walked away and got into his car.
He spent the remainder of the day, and most of the night next to his window, thinking. Why did it bother him so much? Why was he feeling so hurt? Why did he want to cry? It finally hit him
"Neil Khanna, are you in love with that ziddi and pagal Avni?"
