Neil tried to sleep, but he couldn't. All he could think about was Avni. He'd concluded that maybe, just maybe it was love. But how was he to tell her? She was going to be engaged to Ali in the upcoming days, his wedding was fast approaching also. Should he just forget about her? Should he avoid her?

A few days went past; Neil went straight to work and back. He wouldn't hang out in the caf or in the Mehta house in the fear of bumping into Avni. It soon came round to the day of the engagement, he couldn't avoid this otherwise everyone would know something is up. He got to the Mehta house, and greeted the elders whilst Riya came running down the stairs in a yellow anarkali and gave Neil a tight hug, he tried to reciprocate, but his mind was diverted. He could see Ali and Nanno sitting there, constantly looking at the stairs, waiting for Avni. "Kya hua baby, tum theek toh ho na? Itne khoye khoye kyun lagte ho?" Riya asked loudly. "Kuch nahi, bas sar dukh raha tha" Neil replied, "Bas main jaati hoon, Ananya ko le aane" (BTW in my story, Neil and Ali know that Avni is Avni, the Mehta's don't though)

Suddenly, Avni emerged with Riya by her side. Wearing a powder blue lehenga, with a beautiful silver blouse studded with glitter. The dupatta fell at her side; her hair was made into beautiful soft curls with a beautiful maang-tikka falling perfectly. Her eyes were lined, and her lips were glossy. Neil's heart slowed down, and his jaws dropped. Every eye in the room was looking at Avni walking down the stairs until she took her position next to Ali. "Toh, kiska intezaar kar rahe ho Ali? Ring nahi pehnaani kya?" Shweta Ji said as everyone burst into laughter, but Neil immediately walked out of the house. "Isse kya hua yaar?" Ali asked Riya. "Main dekhti hoon" Riya said as she quickly followed Neil outside.

"Neil, Neil, NEIL RUK JAAO" Riya's screams could be heard till the Mehta house. Everyone came running to find Neil lying on the ground, after having just been hit by a Maruti Ciaz. "Paagal ho kya, gaari chalana nahi aati toh kyun chalaate ho?" Riya yelled. "Woh Ma'am, maine horn maari, lekin sir nahi dekh rahe the, isme meri kya galti hai?" the man replied. "Hello, what do you mean about meri galti nahi hai, kya meri Tillu ki galti thi?" Shweta ji asked. "Aunty, ek minute" Avni replied as she turned towards the man "Tum jaante ho yeh kaun hai? Inspector Neil Khanna" The man's eyes widened as he realised what he had done. "Woh, madam, sorry, aainda se dyaan rakhunga"

Neil was rushed to the hospital. He was conscious but the doctors repeatedly reminded the families that Neil was very lucky. He had lost quite a lot of blood, and if they'd arrived any later, it might have been too late. "Aunty, aap sab jaao, main aur Ali rukte hain, aap bohot thakke honge na" Avni said. Reluctantly, everyone left. Ali decided to go and get a coffee for both him and Avni. The doctor came out and informed Avni that she could go meet the patient if she wishes. "Neil, tum theek hona?" Avni enquired. "Haan Mrs Ali, main bilkul theek hoon" Neil replied quickly. "Mrs Ali? tum mera naam kyun nahi lete" Avni asked. Neil totally ignored it and started flicking through the TV channels.

She detected something was wrong, but what exactly?

Aww it's getting interesting! Avni cares about him too.. hmm good. Waiting for next part.
