Its not about women centric films, in general bollywood has this herd mentality where if certain theme starts cashing everyone follows it.
Be it remaking south indian films, biopics, sports oriented films. Ek karta hai sab karte hai.
Audience get overdose with back to back and films start flopping...

Had katrina or DP been cast in Kaabil..
Would it have opened as big as Raees?

Except AAmir and Salman..no big star can reach 150 crores, without an A lister heroine.

No young actor can reach 100 crs without an A lister heroine..even if it is a hit franchise.

These male stars, when given the genre, budget and directors these actresses,get..do you see anyone opening more than heroines.

remember youngest superstar Ranbir's film ,BV,with an A lister opened less than piku, with double the screens

Unfair that women centric always open low even with good content where as male/Khan movies however bad/good open to huge numbers.
Women centric should be wholesome entertainment with good content, direction, acting and WOM to become successful which IMO none of the movie released this year had. if they were strong in content, story telling failed, some were good at acting but there was bad way of story telling.
Women have a long way to go in Bollywood to attract attention just based on star power.

Predicted this a few months back. With the fall of studios women oriented films will fall too.

Anyway none of the promos were impressive this year apart from Mom. So no surprises at the BO results. It's going to get worse. The next big wave is online. Cinema will end as we know it in a few years.

Not sure whether this is going to happen soon.Bollywood relies on online only for songs to become chartbusters and promotions.India still relies on TV and theatre for entertainment.Online might be a hit in metros but it's still a distant dream for the online space to penetrate fast into the rest of the country.

On topic, forget women oriented films, every single film is under the radar after demonitization in Bollywood. The industry ran on black money, demonetization has been a big blow to the BW industry.
