Who's being empowered?

Today, most of the Hindi serials claim to be empowering women all over the country. But let me ask, how do they even think so?
I accept the serial makers have the motive to do so.They portray it very well in the initial episodes. But then, they go back to the mundane stuff. There's a terribly large difference between what they intend to show and what they show.
It is high time they realise that the pretentious, modern daughter-in-law winning the saas-bahu argument is NOT women empowerment.A woman has a more important role to play in her home than quarrelling with every family member and proving herself correct. Before being someone's daughter, wife, sister or daughter-in-law,she is an individual. This is what most of the serials have conveniently forgotten.
On the other side,we have our very traditional, abiding and ideal 'bahu"s. They face all the taunts and insults, keeping their mouths shut.Any attempt to protect her self-respect is treated as an insult to the adulated in-laws.It is true that we should respect our elders-but no woman needs to sit silent and face harsh mistreatment. That isn't respect but that's impotency.
We have the male protagonist, who is practically dumb in half of the serials. His role is just to watch his "inspiring" wife and mother pique over literally everything. So,when a woman becomes strong, her husband talks once in a week?
There are many things that need to change. We find the serial actress wearing ponderous jewellery everyday.Tell me,who wears two gold necklaces and heavy earrings at home? The more jewellery she wears, the richer her family is.Great!
I'm glad there are a few serials making an effort to show something worthwhile.I appreciate them.Things are changing, for sure. But what I feel is-We need more change.Serials should be entertaining and informative too. They should focus more on current issues and stop beating around the bush. If so, they can undoubtedly empower each and every every woman.

I do not see any Indian television serial advocating empowerment in right light.
They sure have delusional ideas about empowerment.
Mother in law torturing Daughter in law is not empowerment.
Serial heroines are just non existent reel characters which people enjoy watching .
Acting like Martyr , eavesdropping vamps, reincarnation, icchadhari nagins and memory loss do not fit into my definition for empowerment.:p
Just look at these serial as an entertainment factor. Do not expect things like advocating empowerment ideologies from them.

PS-I cannot understand the Male leads character most of the time. They are most of the time 'Just there' or off to work with the signature office bags.
I m curious to know what is in that bag though

What you said about the male leads is right. It is true that serials are only for entertainment purpose.
But the problem is,they are ending up giving a wrong message sometimes. And that eavesdropping thing has crossed all limits these days

About the message given by Indian television serials
I personally think that now it's high time that people should start segregating between
"what is fictional and what though fictional yet could be adopted in real life ? "

The serials wash hands of their responsibility regarding the impact of their content, story etc by providing disclaimer in the beginning .
Hence IMO the message one should take from high voltage dRama serial is
"Nothing ":p

Serials are scripted, reel and fictional.
Empowerment is something which is needed, necessary and real.
You can clearly see the stark difference in the direction both of them will lead.

Agreed :)
They need to change the way they are showing their leads. But all the change they bring is family separation, memory losses and supernatural powers even!!
How can things become too fictional?
They may lose their entertainment factor gradually if they show us useless stuff.

Trust me when I say
They already lost that factor in my list 😆
But then I still enjoy
Serials like
Taarak Mehta or any comedy show
I hope but that they stop with the same old stories and bring something fresh
Like the 24 series ( though it was a remake, still I enjoyed it thoroughly)

Most of the serials on Indian television are horrible. Getting worse over the course of the years

Not at all close to reality be it the changing landscape of family dynamics today, characters, clothing, jewels, settings, dialogues, stories, plot, twists, and so on. As for sending a message on empowerment, woh toh door ki baat hai 😛

Haha yes!
The longer a serial, the terrible its twists. 😆
