Dear Talia,
While the idea of writing this story came to me, I was apprehensive as the plot line is risky. I personally would love a happy ending for every victim of traumatic experience in the world ... whether they were sexual abused, undergo an acid attack, abusive marriage or lose of family. I know this journey will be painful that can be intolerable some time. So wanted to show how beautiful their past was and balance.

Sahil is a coward . Even if Swasan had done something bad Swara didn't deserve that heinous incident.

Even if Swara wants to leave, Sanskar will haunt her all her life!

Thanks for your lovely response.
Love,
Dyuti

Nyna dearest,
As the prologue described the moment just after the incident, I thought it would be a good idea to put past and present both. When the past will turn more bitter, hopefully the present would have a stronger Swara. Personally I'm finding it easier to write the present. And I think you could connect less to the other characters because in real life Sanskar and Lucky are too good to be true! But Swara's pain is real and i can relate to her. I had a nervous breakdown when my once flawless skin suddenly got heavily scarred from chicken pox.The scars were ugly and still I have them.

But I know Sanskars do exist in real life too.

I know a young doctor couple where the wife has nothing left... not beauty... no more ability to move or speak... yet that husband love her, take care of her, and she can emote through her tears only. I know acid attack survivors who've found their happy endings too. May be those Sanskars may be average looking, lower middle class but they're no less than any super heroes!

Love you,
Dyuti

Dear Kavi,
I guess so! I'll be happy to send PM to one more cutie pie like you! 😊 Welcome aboard! I'm really floored by your compliments! 😳 My another story has depicted very different equation between Swalak so it was a change in a good way for me too. Though almost all of you're loving the past more, it's the present scenario that compelled me to write this story. I hope to start working on the next chapter very soon.

Again a warm hug and loads of love,
Dyuti

Dear readers, I know I've been very late, but my other FF demanded attention that time. I don't know if you can recall it anymore... Anyways... Here's chapter 3.

3.Cutie pie

Kaleidoscope of memoirs: Flying without wings

Last few days Sanskar was in a bad mood, he was losing his cool for the tiniest reasons or for no reason at all. His friends were getting irritated with his mood swing. The long queue of blushing girls nowadays irked Sanskar a lot. Rohan could guess the reason, Swara had successfully managed to avoid their path. He had enough of Sanskar's tantrums. If this goes on one more day, he would have to kidnap Swara from anywhere... for their own peace of mind!

Fortune was surely in the favour of Rohan today, for God saved him from turning into a criminal. Much to his relief, after college time had been over, he noticed Swara, waiting in the parking lot. He immediately called Sanskar. "Hey, you angry young man! Come to the parking lot if you want to see your dream girl . I know you're in foul mood 'cause you had been missing her these days. I hope at least now you'll spare us from your torture, cranky Sanky!"

Sanskar started towards the parking lot as soon as he received the call. His frown in eyebrows had turned into twinkling happy gleam, yet he answered in a mock anger, "Keep your know-it-all attitude to yourself, Mr Rohan Malhotra! Who told you I was missing her? You called me for nothing, I'm not coming. Bhaag waha se!"

"Aww, are you shy Sanky?Do you want some privacy?" Rohan teased his friend to his heart's content. Then he faked anger, "Saale! Main tujh jaisa kamina insaan aj tak nahi dekha! What to do,the word called Gratitude' doesn't even exist in your dictionary! Fine, I'm going! But you owe me one!"

Sanskar shook his head smilingly. Why was he suddenly feeling so light just at the mention of her presence near him? Moreover why everything around him had appeared so annoying, when she was nowhere to be seen? This was something new for him. He couldn't explain the burst of joy his heart experienced when he could see her standing in the parking lot, tapping her feet impatiently.

"Hi Shona!Where were you these days? I hope you aren't missing your classes?"Sanskar's face was beaming with 100 watt smile.

"That's none of your concern!" She returned his lopsided grin with a scowl." Wherever I was, at least I didn't have to tolerate you!"

"Sshh! Tum bahut jaldi hyper ho jati ho!" He stepped a bit towards her but she moved away, "See? Still you are trying to burn me with your glare! Senior hone ki naate mere kuch farz banta hain... ! I have to watch out for you... I mean for all of my juniors... Hai ki nahin? You just ask, I can manage your notes in no time, in case if you've missed any classes."
"Did you ask Nikhil or Lucky too?For your kind information they also missed classes...Aww how caring you are! We the juniors are so lucky! Such a caring big brother like you..."her eyes sparkled with a naughty glint when he looked like his pants caught on fire!" Oye! I'm not anyone's brother ! Especially not for you!"he seemed aghast, "I'll never allow anyone else to tie rakhi around my hand except Uttara, okay?"

" Huh! Like I'm dying to waste a rakhi on you!"She rolled her eyes, though inwardly she found the situation hilarious! Sanskar was looking just like a cute 3 year old kid, whose candy had been snatched. Shit!Had she just thought he was cute?

As if hearing her thought Sanskar smirked, "Why don't you simply confess that you don't want to waste your chance with the great Sanskar Maheshwari! Akhir main hoon hi aisa! Charming... dashing... handsome..."He was standing very close to her, his last words came out barely as whisper. Swara shivered a little, but quickly covered up. "In your dreams, Mr Narcissus! By the way don't you get tired with your name? Itna bada naam bol bolke thakti nehi ho kya?"

"Sunny chalega kya?"His voice was soft yet husky. "Those who're close to my heart call me Sunny!" She rolled her eyes, " You're impossible, you know?"

"Nothing is impossible. At least try kar ke toh dekho!"His words were followed by silence, trying to figure out the words that were yet to be spoken... "Swara, you're waiting for too long. It's not safe around this time" He broke the awkward quietude with genuine concern for her. "Let me drop you home at least!"
"Thanks for your concern!"Though she liked this gesture of his but shook her head. "Actually I'll go home with my cutie pie only!"

"Cutie pie?" Swara had a boyfriend? Sanskar's fragile sensitive heart fell down from the sky to the earth, and broke into million pieces.

"Haan... My cutie pie! God knows when that Lucky will return..." Swara was moved her hands animatedly and her bracelet with small charms attached to it jingle.
Sanskar was furious beyond limits. So Laksh was her boyfriend! That meant he was making him fool.To add to his anger at that exact moment Laksh made an entry with a red scooty sporting a sorry smile on his face.

Sanskar patted his back rather hard as if was being friendly" Very bad Lucky boy! How could you make her waiting so long for her CUTIE PIE!"He yelped a bit and replied"Ouch!Easy bro!So now you too know about that!"
"What did you think I won't come to know?"Sanskar clenched his teeth and spoke in a low tone."Right...I forgot! After all you've a special fascination for her!" Laksh sported a teasing grin.

The gall of that guy! Still he was going on with his facade and mocking him!Sanskar had to resist himself from knocking off those 32 teeth from that two faced idiot's jaw. Only for Swara he couldn't do that! Alas his first crush is now off limits for him!

"Duffer!"now it was Swara's turn who punched Laksh hard. "You were supposed to return at least half an hour back. Date pe jaake sab bhul gaye the kya? Agar mere cutie ka fuel bharna bhul gaya na toh bahut maar khayega!"

"Fuel? DATE?" Sanskar looked flabbergasted.

"Are you stupid? Scooty chalane ke liye fuel chahiye! Lucky stole my cutie pie, bunked classes and went for a long ride with some Tina or Rina! Pata nehi exactly naam kya tha !"She twisted her face and looked around her to find Laksh nowhere and a dumbstruck Sanskar, who all of a sudden started laughing like a maniac... "Oh my God!... That scooty is your cutie pie!... And people say I'm crazy!" He had a strong urge to pull her cheeks at that moment. She was looking like a kiddo with her chubby cheek, pursed lips and red nose."Aww you're looking too cute, angry Shona! Just like your cutie pie!"

"Sach mein, Rab ne bana di jodi! Both are violent and crazy!Ouch! My back!" Standing behind a pillar Laksh looked at the gorgeous duo. "Sorry Shona, for disappearing this way. But you'll kill me if I say your scooty has just enough fuel to let you reach home. I know how much you hate to hit roads without your cutie pie!" Saying this to himself he left silently, leaving behind Sanskar, Swara and her cutie pie... Not knowing what would be the result of this act of his.

Present: Scars in our stars

"Yes, Mr Das.I want the best criminal lawyer in the city. After what he had done, I can't let go Sahil just like that."Sanskar gave instructions to Mr Bhuvan Das, the legal advisor of his company SM industries. " He must not come out of the jail any cost, not even on bail!" He cut the call and faced Laksh, "We need to go to the hospital, Lucky . Shona will wake up any minute ... "

Laksh wanted to say something but thought that any other person or matter can wait at that moment. " Yes Jeeju. Doctor had asked to meet her close ones to talk about her. None other than you should have the right to choose the options or make any decisions for her welfare... about her treatment or life..."

"I wish I never had to do this, Lucky... I wanted her to make own choices... take her own decisions..." Sanskar closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh. His voice was heavy, "Yeah I agree I persuaded her a lot... But not to make her mine... But I wanted her to notice me ... to consider me... to let me walk with her..." He opened his eyes, which had turned misty by then.

"Never mind." Sanskar composed himself. So what his strong lady wasn't even able to stand up... let alone take a step on her own... He would carry her in his arms till she finds herself back... even if that means eternity...

***********************************

Swara caressed the flowers and card... and the words scribbled on it... For once she went back to the day of their first meeting... Then the lines of Shakespeare from his deep, husky voice rang alarming bells... or should she say siren?... And today those few lines were alluring her to open the floodgates she had been building of the dam around her overwhelming emotions... Those fond memories of their turbulent love... For one moment she wanted to be in his arms... and die in Sanskar's undying love... For one moment she wanted to forget the nightmare... For one moment she wanted to be Sanskar's Swara... for ever and ever...

*********************************

"Excuse me Ma'am, you've just received a parcel." The nurse handed her a parcel "I must say, your fiance loves you a lot. At first flowers, now gift... Stay blessed beta." the elderly nurse stroked her hair.

The parcel had a place card with the word, "Get well soon, my love. -S"
She removed the colorful wrapping paper with her trembling hands. The object that had been unveiled underneath the wrapping was indeed pleasing to one's eyes ,an authentic traditional artwork... a handwritten note accompanying the present had dropped on her lap. Reading it her eyes filled with tears...

**********************************

"Dr Roy, I'm Sanskar Maheswari, Swara's fiance and her immediate contact. How is she faring? She will be alright, na? I assure you... You won't have to back off due to time or financial constraints from my side during the course of treatment... She shouldn't miss any possible options ... I want her back..."

"Listen Mr Maheshwari, I can't promise that she'll be 100% okay .You had told me she had to undergo a hostage situation. She was physically assaulted.. along with subjected to an acid attack ... She also fell into the river .That's why she was almost on the verge of slipping into coma."
"I know..." He closed his eyes, his words almost came out as whispers... The black day which shook their earth become vivid in front of his eyes. He regained his composure and said, "However the situation is, I want her to recover... the sooner the better... for her... for me... and for you... I won't tolerate any excuses..."

"Being emotional will get you or your fiance nowhere,Mr Maheshwari! The chemical burn on her face needs immediate attention. Thank God she fell into the river! That drowning event came as a blessing in disguise for her. Water flow diluted the acid, thus the deep layers of her skin were saved."

"Why should I thank God?" He almost yelled in frustration, "Didn't you hear her screams? Were you being deaf?... Koi samajh bhi nehi sakta woh kaise yeh dard seh rahi hogi!"

"I know this phase tough for her...but pain is good! Do you know what does it mean? It means her nerves are not damaged... It's only a first degree burn." Dr Roy tried to make him understand, ". You need to be be strong, there's no time for emotions. She has a scheduled surgery after time limit of 48 hours after the attack is over. We need an expert plastic surgeon for that."

Sanskar's face lit up in hope, "Are you saying she will get over those wounds? Are you saying she will get her previous appearance back?"

"See, I know her injury is not the worst kind we usually face. The burns involves only one side of her face and hands. Still I will advise you to keep your hopes low. She will need a series of surgeries over a year. Most of the patients require that .But her face is never going to be as flawless as it used to be." Roy watched his gleam to fade a little, " Are to ready to accept the negative outcomes,Mr Maheshwari? If you can't, if you have any second thoughts I'll advise you to step out of her life right now. More you raise her hopes, more will be the impact of losing you on her psychology... "

"Dr Roy, all I want her to be free from pain, be it physical or psychological. She is pushing me away just because of those marks on her face... I hoped perhaps she would be free from that baggage if... Never mind... I have to work extra hard then...", This time Sanskar's eyes had sadness, not anger like they previously had. It seems the world works like this way! Is it usually expected that one will leave his other half of the soul when she is in her worst stage of life? Why then they expect couples to take seven vows during marriage? Are they supposed mere promises , chanted for the sake of rituals, with the tag line under conditions'?

"Fine then. There's an NRI plastic surgeon named Dr Mukesh Aiyyar. Though he stays in London but worked on many such cases with great success. He is one of the few best people in this field . Though managing flight ticket at the eleventh hour is difficult, I'll personally try to fix the appointment and subsequent surgery with him only. "Dr Roy had a newfound respect and admiration for this young man seated in front of him. Working experience in a burn unit had exposed him the actual dark sides of human relations. He was a witness of too many heartbreaks even after being hitched ... of those hearts who were promised of moon and stars, bed of roses, fairytale love from their respective sweethearts... Whereas this man chose to walk over the flame with his loved one, when walking away was
easier.

"Don't worry about flight tickets. Our London office will take care of it. You just..."Sanskar couldn't finish his sentence. A nurse rushed inside the chamber and spoke with urgency, "Sir, the patient in cabin 303... she is refusing any type of injections... Her behaviour has drastically changed for some reason", Suddenly she noticed Sanskar, "Mr Maheshwari, I was talking about your fiance only..."

Sanskar dashed past her, almost knocking with few staffs on his way towards the cabin. Opening the door he was astonished. Swara was sitting like a stone idol, tears streaming down from those honey brown eyes... Sanskar walked by her bed and held her shoulder, "Swara... what happened? Why are you rejecting injections? One minute... What are those things on your lap?"

Swara looked at him and registered his presence... Sudden her expressions changed... she pushed his hand away and back off... she flung away everything she could find within her reach while she screamed, "Stay away Sanskar ! Dur Raho mujhse...I hate you Sanskar! I hate you for staying with me... Nafrat hain mujhe ye pyaar...yeh sab jhoot aur natak se ... Mahan Sanskar mujhe nehi chahiye! Kan kholke Sunn lo... I hate those flowers, gifts, notes... From you or Sahil!"She was about to pull the cannula with saline drip off her hands when Sanskar stopped her.

"Stop it Shona! Stop it!"He wrapped his arms around her with one hand and gripped her less burnt hand with the other. She squirmed and struggled to get free but soon stopped feeling exhausted. He left her hand and stroked her hair, "When will you believe in us Shona? I'm not here out of pity!I'm here for my own selfish reasons! I can't live those sleepless nights and restless days again... When you were there, but not with me... tum meri zarurat, meri aadat ban chuki ho.You've become my need, my habit... without whom I may breathe, but can't live... Won't you accept your selfish Sanskar? Maaf nehi karogi?" He kissed the top of her head, when she burst into tears, "Why did Sahil do that with me? What sin have we done that God punished us this way? I don't deserve you Sanskar... My face..."

"Shhh... calm down Shona... Not you, that Sahil had committed a sin for which any punishment would be less for him... Don't tell me you don't deserve me..." He wiped her tears away with his handkerchief. "Remember? What did Lucky and Nikhil say after our engagement? Their precious princess was hijacked by a frog prince who would remain a frog forever. You too supported them..." He smiled recalling the fond memory, with tear glinted eyes.

In the meantime, the nurse gave her sedatives. After a while Sanskar laid her on bed. He noticed a crushed paper and a folded photo frame on the floor. He opened the paper.

"My dearest Swara,
How was the gift? If you were my fiance, both images of the frame would look same gorgeous. But sadly the right one is scary and ugly now. For the right one is a mirror, which never lies like some fake people...

I don't know if your so called fiance is here or not. I guess he's here. But I tell you, deep down his heart he wants to escape too... But the Great Sanskar Maheshwari is tied up with his self proclaimed conscience and the engagement perhaps? I don't know how long he'll stick to you. Brace yourself for the future heartbreak, just like once I had to...

Wish you all the best... I told you baby, life without me won't be easy for you. Life with that face will be definitely tough...Though I still love you like before... But I don't want to be with you.
With apologies and sympathy,
Sahil."

Sanskar unfolded the frame to find a photo of Swara and and cracked Mirror attached inside. His blood boiled... That son of a *****! He again managed to break her... His phone rang at that moment, he immediately pressed the green button and said , " Hello."

"How is your fiance ? Did she like my gift? Or perhaps... she couldn't digest sooo much love all at once!!" A sinister voice came from the other side.

"How dare you Sahil? How dare you send that disgusting letter and that thing to her?" Sanskar right now could kill him with his bare hands "I swear I'll break your each and every bone this time! Let alone sending letter and making phone calls... You won't be able to move a single finger."He threatened in a morose voice.

"Kyun, Sambhal nahi gaya kya? Then you should have admitted defeat before hand..." Sahil mocked, "I had to ruin her beautiful face for a good for nothing fellow who thought who could compete against me..." He clicked tongue to make an annoying sound.

"I know how to handle my love in her not so best condition. But you have willingly laid your neck on guillotine. Listen you filthy sw**e, I'm done playing clean. Be ready. Your bad times have started, Sahil Sengupta!"saying this he cut the call.

Enough decency was shown! Now it's about time that Sahil should get a taste of his own medicine. He looked at Swara's sleeping form... Those wounds... not only had scathed her skin... they burned her soul...till the deepest layer... not superficially as her skin as her doctor had informed. No, she shouldn't face this mental torture again. Steeling his resolve he made a phone call.

Sanskar is already worthy for Swara... He has to take care of her treatment as well as legal matters. That's why Sahil is taking chance and crossing all limits of humanity. But he will revert back very soon.
