The situation is still new so maybe they are testing the waters. Personally, I don't think the shows need to merge at all.

IB and DBO have so much potential and solves most of their problems with screen space and the writers have the time to develop several story-lines at once. Having the two time slots (and two shows) is actually beneficial to them, but I'm not convinced the writers have the capability to use this advantage. The writers go off on tangents and don't utilize all the characters or make connections like they could instead they write random scenes for no reason then the story losses its focus. Om/Prinku/ACP was interesting, but the writing ruined it then it disappeared. The writers need to sit down somewhere and figure which story they want to tell and focus on that since multi-tasking isn't their thing. Or actually try to write tracks that are inter-connected and have layers to tell a more complete story and involve more characters. The tracks don't even need to be parallel only need to be well- written and balanced.

Honestly, with this big of a cast even 40 mins ins't a enough time. If SP and the production team was smart then they would make DBO long-term,but everything depends on TRPs.
